The New York Times is looking for an iOS Engineer to join the Games Player Experience (PlayerXP) team. The PlayerXP squads focus on connecting users to the value of registration and subscription, building value through advertising for non-subscribers, and helping users discover the best experience in the Games app every week. Some features we released this year include Create Your Wordle Puzzle, Badges, and a custom experience for free trial users. Come help us create features that delight our customers!
You are passionate about iOS, enjoy creatively solving technical challenges, and are curious about technology inside and outside the iOS platform. You'll report to the Games PlayerXP Engineering Manager and be on a team with native mobile, frontend, and full-stack engineers. You will also work with cross-functional partners in QA, product management, project management, data analytics, and design.

This is a hybrid role based in NYC, typically in-office two days a week. This role may require limited on-call hours. An on-call schedule will be determined when you join, taking into account team size and other variables.
How We Work
We ship code to the App Store weekly and optimize for speed of delivery without compromising on quality. We use a mix of Swift and Objective-C in our native apps, and generally build APIs in Go, web applications in Node.js, and web front-ends in React with accessible, semantic HTML and SCSS.
Software Engineers contribute to their team's goals by owning the development and creation of features from technical design through completion while looking for ways to improve themselves as an engineer. We support Engineers in this role by providing:

Responsibilities:
* You'll create features using Swift and SwiftUI.
* Lead small to medium sized iOS features end to end.
* Design and develop new features using Swift and other modern iOS development tools and frameworks.
* Contribute to app architectural decisions, documentation, technical roadmap and timeline estimations.
* Participate in technical discussions with backend developers and other owners of internal/external dependencies.
* Promote standards in Swift development, and engage with the community of iOS developers at the Times.
* Improve the platform to ensure our app is stable by writing quality code and partnering with the QA team to test and fix bugs.
* Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
Basic Qualifications:
* 2+ years professional iOS development experience
* Swift experience: Write unit tests, networking, data persistence and UI.
* iOS design patterns, memory management and multi-threading such as SwiftUI, UIKit, Combine, MVVM/MVI, and CoreData/GRDB.

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$110,000-$130,000 USD
