From the opening of its first home in 1985, Eagle Ranch has grown well beyond one person with a dream.
Founded in 1985, the Ranch serves children from North Georgia and metro Atlanta, providing home life, counseling and education for the children on a 270-acre campus in southern Hall County.
All the extra ventures were called “Eagle Enterprises”, so when they began the pistachio groves, it was natural to name it “Eagle Ranch”. In 1986, the small farm came to the attention of Anheuser Busch Corp., who had a division called “Eagle Brand Snacks”. The trademarks were in conflict.
As part of its anniversary celebration, Eagle Ranch recently published an updated commemorative edition of “On Eagle’s Wings,” a history of the Ranch’s founding that was written in 1995 to mark the 10th anniversary.
Recognizing an opportunity to expand its services and help even more children in crisis, the Eagle Ranch Board of Directors established The Wings Initiative in 1997.
The Ranch initially housed and counseled boys, then opened the doors to girls in 2001.
In addition, an on?campus SACS?accredited school was also established in 2001 to provide extra help to Ranch children in grades 6?9.
Heart of the Desert wines were added to the product line in 2002.
Chestnut Mountain, Ga. (April 2010)– What began as the vision of a young man with a heart to help hurting children has become North Georgia’s largest home for children in crisisand a global model for children’s homes.
Chestnut Mountain, Ga. (May 2012) – Eagle Ranch, a Christian home for children in crisis, graduated the largest class in its 27-year history with 26 boys and girls completing the program this spring.
Since acquiring the ranch in 2012, the Gottenborgs have significantly expanded the geographical area of the ranch by acquiring numerous private leases and BLM & USFS forest grazing permits.
