The Associate Director of Court Communications & Special Projects will fill a new role and will work closely with the Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications to create broad communications strategies for our organizational courts positioning. Earthjustice works both in and on the courts. As they have increasingly been under attack, it has never been more critical to use communications as a key strategy in our efforts to stop the destabilization of laws that regulate our environment and our government, and reducing people's ability to hold the executive branch accountable for the law. The Associate Director will help lead this work through a number of ways. This person will be responsible for creating and implementing the communications strategy for the Strategic Legal Advocacy team. The five attorneys on this team play an innovative role, focusing on cases and issues that affect different offices and programs within Earthjustice and affect the broader progressive litigation community, with a focus on cases headed to or at the U.S. Supreme Court. This person will also create and implement thought leadership strategies around the courts and the law for Earthjustice leadership and the organization's editorial functions. The Associate Director will create and lead the implementation of a communications strategy for our federal judicial work. Additionally, this person will be responsible for partnering with the VP of Public Affairs and Communications to implement communications strategy for special projects that fall outside of our litigation teams. Preference will be given to candidates based in Washington, DC but remote workers will be considered. Responsibilities: Strategy, Planning & Coordination (45%):
Provide strategic communications guidance for the Strategic Legal Advocacy team projects, for specific cases and to advance legal theories for target audiences.
Provide strategic communications guidance and execute thought leadership campaigns for Earthjustice leadership around high profile legal cases and issues.
Serve as a thought partner for Communications teams developing courts-related content.
Create strategy and communications plans for programmatic work around federal judges.
Work with counterparts at other organizations to ensure we have shared communications strategies, messaging, and positioning.
Content Creation & Implementation (35%):
Lead Earthjustice's implementation of coalition campaigns related to courts and judges.
Conduct communications work for special projects related to courts and legal advocacy.
Responsible for the creation and implementation of editorial content, earned media pushes, and thought leadership for SLA team, and for executive leadership on special projects.
Administrative (10%):
Help create special projects budget, tracking, metric measurement schemes, and reporting.
Develop and advise on department strategy documents, timelines, budgets, and communications plans and tactics to determine effectiveness, ensure accountability, and inform future strategy. Sets achievable measurements of success for top priority issues and strives to meet these goals.
Participates in organizational training and professional development opportunities.
May oversee staffperson/people.
Collaboration (5%):
Work collaboratively across teams to build and/or execute integrated strategies that support institutional and departmental priorities. Ensure that strategies are optimized for impact and delivering positive outcomes for Earthjustice using testing, data, and refinement.
Work with other communications staff within and outside of the organization to ensure a consistent, coordinated message on the team's substantive casework and on the broader courts- and Supreme Court-related work of the team.
Produce accurate, quality, and timely work in an ever-shifting landscape of news, technology, politics, and law. Adopt a flexible approach to meeting rapid response moments and pivot strategies where needed.

Qualifications:
7+ years of experience, 2+ in a role developing strategy preferred
Experience writing communications materials for legal-focused audiences, or producing content in a law setting preferred

Program Description
The Development team at Children's Law Center (CLC) is charged with raising philanthropic dollars to fund the essential work that our staff do each year to carry out the mission of the organization. Development staff build relationships and steward local, regional and national foundations, law firms, corporations and individuals who give annual and multi-year gifts.
In 2026, the Development team's goal is to secure $7M through a diverse set of appeals, events, campaigns and personal solicitations. In preparation for the organization's 30th anniversary, the Development team implemented an essential and ambitious new strategic framework. Job Summary
The Individual Philanthropy Officer is primarily a direct fundraiser, making appeals personally as well as through a network of volunteer fundraisers. This position plays a critical role in CLC's individual giving program by managing a portfolio of donors and prospects by engaging in strategic cultivation, stewardship and personalized solicitations.
Role Responsibilities
Fundraising - 80%
Build a robust pipeline of prospective Kite Club members with the goal of increasing $1,500+ donors from 300 to 450 by 2028.
Engage a portfolio of approximately 50 lower- and mid-level Kite Club members comprised of mostly individual donors as well as several family foundations and corporate supporters.
Identify, develop and draft materials to support Kite Club solicitations.
Create event and/or engagement strategies to steward and cultivate relationships.
Logistical Support and Prospect Research - 20%
Engage a portfolio of approximately 150 lower- and mid-level Kite Club members comprised of mostly individual donors and several family foundations.
Work with Development Associate to review, qualify and cultivate donors under $1,000 to build a robust pipeline of prospective Kite Club members (annual mid-level donors) giving between $1,500 to $5,000 with the goal to manage relationships and continue to upgrade donors.
Work with volunteers to cultivate their networks and actively support their cultivation and solicitation moves.
Create event and/or engagement strategies to steward and cultivate relationships.
Work with the Director of Individual Philanthropy to strategize and implement plans to steward donors.
Support the Director of Individual Philanthropy with the cultivation and solicitation of donors to the Tenacity and Transformation Campaign.
Required Skills and Experience
4-7 years' experience with fundraising and individual solicitation, with 4+ years of in person (face to face or via phone/virtual meeting) experience with individuals preferred. Individuals with 4-7 years of sales and business development experience are also encouraged to apply.
Experience with fundraising/Customer Relationship Management software (e.g., DonorPerfect, Raiser's Edge).
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 or 2016, especially Word & Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience executing fundraising strategies to build relationships with individual donors in a nonprofit setting, with a preference for experience in a legal or policy context. Experience executing sales or business development is also welcome.
Experience successfully pitching, soliciting, closing and stewarding donors or customers making gifts of $1,000 - $10,000 or more.
Experience writing fundraising appeals or sales pitches, collateral, reports and other development or sales-related materials for print and digital platforms.
Experience with prospect research, including working with wealth screening tools.

The Family Support Advocate will team with lawyers who assist parents and caretakers of children in family law, housing, special education and public benefits matters. The Associate Attorney position is a three-year position with the potential for extension, designed to help attorneys who are in the early stages of their careers to develop into thoughtful, professional, and effective advocates skilled in the various phases of public interest litigation. As Associate Attorneys gain experience, they gradually take on more independent responsibility for their cases but work throughout their tenure under the supervision of Senior Attorneys, Deputy Managing Attorneys, or the Managing Attorney. Responsibilities:
Associate Attorneys perform a range of litigation and advocacy-related tasks that can include:
