    In 1971, East Jefferson Hospital opened its doors to the public after some years of identifying the need of the community for a hospital. East Jefferson General Hospital has grown with the East Bank community, offering the clinical expertise and cutting edge technology the community expects and deserves. Today, the hospital remains publicly owned and not-for-profit. It is a service district hospital governed by a 10-member volunteer Board of Directors appointed by the Jefferson Parish Council and the Parish President. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
