Eastern Kentucky University company history timeline

1906

On May 7, 1906, the Normal School Commission selected the site of the former Central University campus to be the location of the new school.

Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) in Richmond, Kentucky, was originally established as a normal school in 1906 in the wake of a landmark education law passed by the Kentucky General Assembly.

1922

The paper was founded in 1922, after two previous campus newspapers had quit publication.

1966

The Kentucky General Assembly of 1906 enacted legislation establishing the Eastern Kentucky State Normal School No. It was not until 1966 that the school was officially renamed Eastern Kentucky University.

1969

Master of Business Administration was offered and the first degrees were awarded in 1969.

1973

Winner of the 1973 Defensive NFL Rookie of the Year Award

1999

In 1999, he received the Governor's Award for his book Robert Worth Bingham and the Southern Mystique.

2001

Management, Marketing, and Administrative Communication merged to form MMAC with acting chair Doctor Jana Vice until Doctor Norb Elbert was named chair in 2001.

2009

Additionally, the Master's Degree program in Occupational Therapy was ranked 24th in the country in the magazine's recently published "America's Best Graduate Schools 2009" edition.

2010

In 2010, the University awarded its first doctoral degree—in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.

In 2010, EKU unveiled Operation Veteran Success, a series of initiatives designed to make the university even more veteran-helpful.
