Minimum Qualifications (GMW2): Pesticide applicator's license may be required based on position duties; AND Two years experience as a grounds keeper which included plant care; OR An Associate's degree in Landscape Technology or Horticulture; OR Completion of a Landscape Certification program or license in a horticultural specialty. Key Responsibilities 80% - Evaluation - Work directly with students (small group and individually, including minors) in pool sessions and open water dives as they practice techniques, skills, and equipment usage which are necessary for certification. - Assist or independently run dive groups of 20+ students with assistance from additional staff and/or volunteers in pool sessions and open water dives. - Modify level and amount of assistance provided to students based on each student's individual skill and comfort level. - Evaluate each student's skills to determine when it is appropriate to build on techniques and continue with the next step in the established curriculum. In this position, students learn and build vital career-readiness skills in the primary areas below: Critical Thinking, Professionalism, Equity & Inclusion, Career & Self-Development Position Duties Position Details, Duties and Responsibilities: * Recognize and prevent hazardous behaviors or situations before they develop into emergencies. * Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies in accordance with the facility's Emergency Action Plan (EAP). * Complete all incident, accident, and rescue report forms accurately and promptly. * Demonstrate strong situational awareness, alert posture, and professionalism at all times. * Strictly follow all policies and procedures outlined in the American Red Cross R.24 Lifeguard Manual. * Enforce facility rules consistently and respectfully to maintain a safe aquatic environment. * Understand basic water chemistry and how it affects aquatic facility operations. * Maintain a clean, orderly lifeguard station and assist with general facility upkeep as needed. * Wear the approved uniform to ensure clear visibility and identification for patrons. * Stay informed by regularly reviewing the lifeguard shift schedule (W2W), email, and staff communication channels (Canvas and Teams). * Collaborate with the Aquatic Coordinator, Head Lifeguard, and Senior Aquatics Associate to support daily operations * Participate actively in the substitution system to support team coverage. * Maintain all required lifeguard certifications as outlined in the employment contract. * Practice rescue skills and maintain personal fitness levels weekly to ensure readiness. * Attend required in-service trainings and continue developing competencies in aquatic safety * Be available for scheduled shifts during winter, spring, and fall terms, and reliably fulfill assigned work hours. * Assist with paperwork, forms, and administrative tasks as needed for the position. * Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Aquatic Coordinator to support smooth facility operations.
