EBI history

EMBL's founding father John C. Kendrew served as the first Director General of EMBL until 1982, when he was succeeded by Lennart Philipson.

In 1984, Emmons Stationery acquired the stock of Napp Office and Schools Supply Company of Manitowoc.

In August 1985, the stock of Andersen Office Supply, Inc of Mauston was an acquired expansion.

1988 - EMBL and others establish EMBnet, the international sequence database network.

The 1990 acquisitions included The Business Station located in Green Bay and Appleton, K & L Office Equipment of Green Bay and Marinette.

In 1992, the EMBL Council voted to establish the EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) and to locate it on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus in Hinxton, UK, where it would be in close proximity to the major sequencing efforts at the Sanger Institute.

In 1995, the furniture division of ENOP became Emmons Business Interiors, LLC (EBI) and formed its own company, focusing on the contract furniture needs of Wisconsin and surrounding areas.

1999 - A new programme in Mouse Biology begins operation in Monterotondo near Rome, Italy.

2001 - EMBLEM GmbH, EMBL's technology transfer arm, is established.

2002 - EMBL participates in completion and analysis of human and other genomes, made publicly accessible on EMBL-EBI's Ensembl website.

2005 - Professor Iain Mattaj is appointed as EMBL's fourth Director General.

In October 2013, a remodel of our Madison office with a 6500 square foot showroom was completed to showcase the latest trends in the marketplace.

December 1, 2015 Complete Office acquired Hadley Office Products, Inc., located in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Our most recent showroom is a 9850 square foot showroom in downtown Milwaukee that opened in October of 2017.
