Echo technician job in Washington, DC
Perform cardiac ultrasound examinations such as 2D echo, and other echocardiographic tests of pediatric patients as requested by referring physicians. Independently perform echocardiogram on pediatric and adult patients with congenital heart disease and communicate pertinent and detailed findings with reading physician.
Essential Responsibilities:
Obtains pertinent clinical information from patient, medical chart, and/or physician using accepted standard techniques.
Communicates purpose and procedures related to the ultrasound test to the guardians and/or patient and comforts/reassures guardians and/or patient about the examination.
Performs 2D echo, Doppler, and other echocardiographic examinations to provide anatomic and physiologic data for physicians review.
Notifies physician of patient distress and/or severe abnormal readings.
Provides assistance and training in the Echocardiograph Laboratory and maintains appropriate training documentation materials.
Participates in the development of effective Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) activities to improve quality of care.
Performs other related duties as directed.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
Minimum one (1) year of experience in pediatric ultrasound procedures/equipment, CW Doppler, and related anatomy/pathological conditions of and related to the heart required.
Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.

Review the patient's history and verify the medical order.
Evaluate images by checking the quality of the image and the making sure that the area in question is included in the image.
Be familiar with the differences from a normal image and an abnormal image.
Communicate with the doctor the result of the image.
Assist physicians in the performance of various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the Electrophysiology Labs.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: 2 Year/Associate's Degree preferred. Graduate of an accredited Echocardiography school or the equivalent in experience.
Experience: 2 years of Echocardiography experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonograph (ARDMS) required or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required.
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: New graduates of a two-year program must be registered within 12 months of hire. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s)' age.
