Performs complete non-invasive transthoracic echocardiographic studies, assists with various echocardiographic procedures.
Responsibilities:
1. Performs complete non-invasive transthoracic echocardiographic studies, assists with various echocardiographic procedures.
2. Assists the physician with transesophageal, intraoperative, contrast, and, if designated, fetal echocardiography.
3. Functions independently and provides applicable data regarding cardiac anatomy and hemodynamics to assist the cardiologist in the diagnosis of congenital heart defects.
4. Uses a variety of equipment necessary to perform testing.
5. Demonstrates the ability to assess patient status and identify each patient's specific age requirements.
6. Is available for call 24 hours a day on a rotational basis after appropriate training/orientation period.
7. Works at remote clinic facilities.

Technical Expertise/skills
1. Experience in clinical setting performing echocardiograms is required.
2. Experience interacting with a variety of people and ages in a helpful manner, with understanding of growth and development specific to that age is preferred.
3. Experience in healthcare is preferred.
4. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.
Education and Experience
1. Education: Associate's degree in allied health profession required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
2. Certification: ARDMS RDCS pediatric registry within 18 months of hire.
3. An appropriate credential in echocardiography from ARDMS or CCI is required. A credential in pediatric echocardiography is preferred. Successful completion of an ultrasound or CVT program accredited by CAAHEP is required.
4. Basic Life Support Certification is required.

The Registered Echo Technologist performs and assists with cardiovascular procedures ordered by physicians to assist in the diagnosis of patients. Performs a wide variety of related duties as assigned, including assisting the physician and staff with other non-invasive cardiopulmonary procedures.

General Summary:
To perform cardiac ultrasound procedures of a professional level on all patient population serviced by the Hospital. Responsible for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patient.
Essential Functions:
Performs complete study including real time, 2D- M-Mode, Color Flow Mapping, Doppler, Trans-Esophageal, Stress Echo.
Obtains permanent records of examination.
Contributes professional knowledge via sonographer worksheet and verbal communication with cardiologist.
Daily Record of Report Timeliness.
Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job-related hazards.
Follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
Promotes effective working relationships and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Prepares patients for examination and explains procedure to patients while performing studies.
Correlates clinical history with the test to be performed.
Maintains work area.
Performs all other duties as assigned.

Graduate from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology or Sonography, either college affiliated or hospital trained- REQUIRED
Will accept either ARDMS or ARRT Sonography- REQUIRED
Meditech EMR experience- REQUIRED

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Certified Cardiovascular Sonographer is responsible for operating ultrasound equipment to obtain cardiovascular diagnostic images. Assists in interpretation of ultrasound images. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and always exercises strict confidentiality.
Job Functions:
Provides a sonographer's impression.
Maintains adequate stock of supplies by checking inventory regularly.
Assists with the rotation of diagnostic imaging students (Radiology, Ultrasound, etc.) in the Cardiovascular Lab.
75% attendance at monthly department meetings (9/year) and 75% attendance at each of the Cardiovascular QA meetings (9/year for Cardio (Echo) Lab and 9/year for the Vascular Lab).
Enters orders correctly.
Properly utilizes multiple computer systems (Meditech, Chartmaxx, iSite, and Merge).
With appropriate education, training and validation, uses proper technique for intravenous line insertion, administers Definity and intravenous line discontinuation according to the facility protocol.
Maintains compliance in RQI.
Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Experience Required:
Graduate of an approved Sonography Program and have Active Registry in Medical Sonography (Sonographer) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required.
Registered Cardiac Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification and/or RVT certification required.
Minimum of two years of clinical experience preferred.
BLS required.
Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the diagnostic imaging area.
The staff member should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and customer service including effective listening.
The staff member should demonstrate critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation Details: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
