Position Summary:
The Echocardiography Technologist performs inpatient and outpatient echocardiographic procedures to assist cardiologists in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. This role requires advanced knowledge of echocardiography protocols, patient care, and cardiac imaging techniques to produce high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform all 2D echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms (TEEs), and stress echocardiograms according to established protocols.
Operate and maintain echocardiography equipment and ensure proper use of supplies.
Accurately position patients and apply imaging techniques to obtain optimal diagnostic results.
Provide cardiologists with high-quality images and assist with interpretation as needed.
Educate and orient physicians, residents, staff, and students on echocardiography procedures and safety protocols.
Maintain detailed documentation of procedures and patient information.
Participate in on-call rotations as required.
Follow all departmental and safety policies, including cardiovascular imaging safety standards.
Qualifications:
Education:
Associates degree required; Bachelor of Science preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of hospital-based echocardiography experience.
Licensure/Certification:
RDCS (ARDMS) or RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer) via CCI also acceptable.
CPR and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
Advanced understanding of echocardiography techniques and imaging protocols.
Excellent analytical, technical, and critical-thinking skills to perform appropriate scans based on patient history and protocols.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with patients, physicians, and healthcare staff.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, hospital-based cardiovascular department.

Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer Specialty Job Responsibilities
Communicates effectively with the patient to obtain clinical maternal-fetal history/informed consent from the patient or patient's chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination, as evidenced by the exam results. Explains the procedure to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation, as evidenced by customer satisfaction. Assists the physicians in performing CVS, Amniocentesis, and image optimization studies using departmental protocols to provide optimum results.
Demonstrates knowledge of proper sterile techniques and isolation precautions as they pertain to the various specialty procedures.
Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems in maternal-fetal patients that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome, as evidenced by exam results and patient satisfaction. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of IV's heparin locks and central line usage as they pertain to Sonography, as evidenced by observations by supervisor and peers.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent; Degree from Accredited Sonography Training Program
Licensure: None required
Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) Upon Start; Successful completion of the Inova Nuchal Translucency (NT) Program is required within 6 months for team members without the Nuchal Translucency Certification.; Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Obstetrics & Gynecology Upon Start
Experience: Two years of hospital or doctor's office-based experience in the performance of specialized maternal-fetal sonography detecting fetal anomalies.

Primary Duties:
