We are seeking a Coral Reef Ecologist, Research, Pristine Seas to support and scale our approach over the next five years
The Coral Reef Ecologist for Pristine Seas conducts high-impact scientific research in furtherance of the Pristine Seas' mission. The candidate will conduct coral reef research on expeditions, support the production of high-quality scientific reports and publications, and provide input to inform decision-makers regarding the necessity of protecting the last wild places in the ocean
The Coral Reef Ecologist reports to the VP of Research and will be part of a cohesive, collaborative, and high-performing research team. They will contribute to the Pristine Seas research program by facilitating research planning for Pristine Seas expeditions, participating in field research expeditions, analyzing scientific data, and contributing to the writing of reports and peer-reviewed publications.
This is a fixed-term role through December 2030.
Your Impact
Responsibilities Include:
Data Analysis and Reporting (50%)
Collaborate with scientists from around the world in the creation of high-impact scientific publications, which utilize Pristine Seas data and research to highlight the importance of these remote areas in better understanding how pristine ecosystems function.
Lead the production of at least one scientific publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals each year.
Lead the writing of at least one expedition scientific report per year.
Participate in conferences to report on Pristine Seas scientific findings, as agreed upon with the Executive Director.
Disseminate scientific information to a variety of stakeholders from academics, to government agencies, local communities, and school groups.
Marine Expeditions (40%)
Lead coral taxonomy surveys while on expedition.
Collaborate with VP of Research and Expedition Science lead to plan and participate in 1-2 expeditions per year.
Assist in development of expedition science plans.
Assist with operation and execution of existing pristine seas data collections methods as needed in the field.
Policy activities (5%)
Provide oral briefings, presentations, and written material to support Pristine Seas' mission.
Provide content and review Pristine Seas policy documents, presentations, and briefing materials.
Programmatic Activities (5%)
Work with the Communications and Education teams to disseminate research
Assist in developing educational products in collaboration with the NGS Education department.
Support the purchasing of scientific gear and other administrative needs for the science team.
What You'll Bring
Educational Background
Masters Degree in relevant field preferred
PhD in Marine Biology or a related field from an R1 research university, is strongly preferred. Post-doctoral experience is preferred.
Minimum Years and Types of Experience
10+ years of professional work experience in marine science and conservation.
Extensive publication record (30 scientific publications or more with at least five first authored).

The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
The salary range for this position is $104,500 - $110,000.

to join our California Natural Resources Group.
This is a part-time, on-call position that will report directly to our Southern California NR team. Candidates may work remotely.
This position would support numerous natural resource projects throughout the Western United States, including California, the Great Basin region, and the southwest. Primary duties will include ecological statistics and modeling to support risk assessments, permitting, and/or conservation planning. The position will support complex permitting and compliance projects focused on federally and/or state-listed and sensitive species.
Responsibilities will require a working knowledge of advanced statistics and modeling with ecological applications. Skill sets required include including proficiency with statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS) and modeling approaches such as general linear and Bayesian models. Responsibilities will include collaborating with diverse project teams on a variety of types of projects. Other focuses may include supporting development of technical reports, conservation plans, and permit applications. Candidate will coordinate with clients and resource agency staff and participate in public review processes.
Projects and clients can include renewable energy, transportation, utility and energy transmission sectors, with an emphasis on clients in the public sector such as federal and municipal entities.

Monitoring nest sites weekly, at minimum, for evidence of disturbance or predation
Protecting sites from disturbance through predation management and game camera monitoring in cooperation with site managers and partner agencies.
Educating beachgoers about coastal bird species while encouraging compliance with posted areas, and engaging in outreach to user groups.
Collaborate with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) biologist to ensure all survey, monitoring, and posting is completed at sites.
Post nesting sites with symbolic fencing as required or immediately when new nest sites are located.
Survey sites weekly, conduct banded bird resighting, and enter data into the Florida Shorebird Database and other database as required.
Assist with other shorebird conservation and survey efforts.
Communicate management needs to supervisor.
Contribute to report writing as needed and submitting content for program-related publications in a variety of media.
Contribute photographs and short stories about birds and bird stewardship for use on Audubon website and in social media.
Responsible for periodic cleaning and maintenance of program vehicles, trailers, and UTVs as needed.

The Conservation Management Institute (CMI) at Virginia Tech is seeking a field biologist to assist with research projects across various taxa and locations, with a focus on freshwater aquatic fauna. This person will be responsible for working collaboratively with project managers to design and execute various fieldwork and research tasks including aquatic fauna surveys and instream habitat assessments, statistical analysis of biological data, writing technical reports, and developing and managing large-scale databases across multi-taxa and sampling-collection specific datasets. Work Environment
This candidate will need to collaborate effectively with team leads and other staff. This candidate needs to be able to complete project work independently, with minimal supervision. Three technicians will be hired from mid-April to mid-August 2026 to assist with estimating abundance and density of black bears in northcentral Florida. No bears will be captured or handled. Duties include installing barbed-wire hair corrals and collecting bear hair samples following a strict sampling protocol, collecting bait and other supplies, entering and correcting data, and other duties as assigned. Technicians will build corrals in a 2-person team but check them alone. A typical work week is 10 hours/day over 4 days with 3 days off, but technicians may be required to work extra days as needed to stay on schedule. The job will be strenuous, requiring technicians to hike off-trail in harsh weather conditions (e.g., high temperatures and humidity) in areas with biting insects and venomous snakes. Field housing will be provided but food expenses will not be covered. Technicians will be driving agency vehicles during work hours but will need their own transportation for personal time.

SUMMARYThis position supports the expedition as the expert and specialist in natural history for particular regions around the world. Additionally, the naturalist will work with the rest of the field staff in the delivery of the itinerary on a daily basis. The naturalist should expect contract periods a minimum of 3-5 weeks at a time with varying hours each day, based on the itinerary. The naturalist is responsible for creating and presenting engaging presentations, recaps, and in-the-field interpretation. It is essential that this person have excellent social skills as they will be expected to dine with guests and work in a multi-national environment, while living in close quarters.

For this role, we are looking for candidates with expertise specifically in the Sweden/Denmark, and can only consider applicants who meet the following requirements. Please do not apply if you a do not have expertise and experience in the Expedition Cruising industry in the Sweden/Denmark.SPECIFIC SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTISE REQUIRED
Focus on Sweden/Denmark experience in the field, with a strong preference for someone who is from Sweden/Denmark.
Sweden/Denmark natural history expertise and/or Cultural/Historical Specialties are preferred.
Experience communicating the stories of Sweden/Denmark to guests in large and small audience groups is preferred.
Creatively engages with guests and shares knowledge in ways that are personable, comfortable, and that inspire continued learning opportunities and discussion.

Possessing strong skills in public speaking.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Promotion/Sales- Should be familiar with the company philosophy and various programs offered by Lindblad Expeditions and be able to address and field questions from guests regarding the various programs offered.
Conservation/Sustainability- Should become familiar with Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic's conservation and sustainability programs and be able to discuss the particular efforts in any itinerary where scheduled.
Zodiac Operations- Should be prepared to assist with many aspects of Zodiac operations for shore excursions. Familiarity with Zodiacs and ability to drive a strong preference, but not a requirement.
Safety- Should be prepared to participate in on-board safety training, meetings and drills, including abandon ship and fire drills. Will also participate in shore-based training as required by the Company. Must be very familiar with the Field Staff Handbook.
Communication Skills Using the English language, this person must have the ability to read, write, and comprehend policies, legal guidelines, correspondence, and memos. Must also possess the ability to effectively communicate--both in writing and orally--with a professional demeanor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this position, this person is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. This person will also be required to write and type. COMPENSATION STATEMENT
Lindblad Expeditions determines the pay for contracts and positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data. We evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted daily range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living.
