This position collaboratively supports Department of Defense (DoD) customers and employs a project team responsible for managing an Artificial Intelligence initiative, focusing on providing data management and technical architecture support, including Cloud and on-premise resources for Artificial Intelligence development.
As a Systems Engineer you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of systems that depend on data, ensuring data is properly processed and securely transferred to its appropriate location, in a timely manner. Other responsibilities will include supporting ECS's Ashburn Data Center with proficiencies in Windows/Linux Operating Systems and server/Virtual Machine deployment/employment. The work is performed in a multidisciplinary team environment using agile methodologies. The candidate we seek must be highly motivated and enthusiastic about implementing new technologies and learning about new data in a small team environment where deadlines are important to national security. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to learn and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with a team of Cloud Engineers, Solutions Architects, and Cybersecurity Professionals to migrate, manage, and modernize workloads in the cloud-servicing DoD customers via an ECS-managed, government-owned, air-gapped network.
* Work with Change Control Board representatives to implement customer requirements (JIRA, Confluence).
* Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot complex problems and design and implement solutions.
* Assist the team develop and build automations to eliminate mundane tasks.
* Research and learn the latest available technologies to continuously find more efficient solutions to common problems.
* Work closely with data engineers and architects to engineer Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) solutions to prepare raw data for ingest into machine learning (ML) environments for algorithm training, tuning and evaluation.
* Design, develop and maintain data services and/or pipelines as part of an Agile/Scrum team.
* Document any developed processes and procedures.
* Support continuous process automation for data ingest.
* Support the development and integration of ML algorithms for testing and operational deployment.
* Perform data analysis to assist in decision-making.
* Assist in architecture design for cloud and on-premise solutions.
* Work with program management and engineers to implement and document complex and evolving requirements.
* Perform multiple tasks simultaneously with evolving requirements and deadlines.
* Help cultivate an environment that promotes customer service excellence, innovation, collaboration and teamwork.
* Learn and apply new tools and techniques in support of ML algorithm development.

* Must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance or higher.
* Possess a bachelor's degree in data science, Math, Statistics, Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent STEM field; OR, 2-4+ years of working experience in one of the related areas: Data Science, Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Relevant course work may be considered as a substitute for actual experience.
* Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Cloud Formation).
* Experience with Linux OS (RHEL, Ubuntu).
* Experience automating tasks in a cloud or on-premise environment.
* Familiarity with basic AWS Cloud and Azure solution concepts/infrastructure (EC2/VM, service-based databases, Infrastructure as code, Virtual Networking, etc.).
* Experience working with cloud technologies (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, etc.).
* Familiarity with scripting languages (Bash, Python, PowerShell).
* Familiarity with JSON or YAML object writing.
* Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
* Familiarity with common protocols including but not limited to: DNS, SMTP, HTTP(s), SFTP, SCP.
* Familiarity with Active Directory and/or other LDAP based solutions.
* Familiarity with STIGs and security hardening frameworks (DISA STIG, CIS Benchmark).
* Understanding of orchestration tools (GitLab, Ansible, or AWS SSM).
* Ability to work and produce results in an agile and fast-paced environment with dynamic deadlines.
