Eden Housing company history timeline

1987

Cath Merschel, a community activist from San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, became Eden’s third Executive Director in 1987.

1993

The new senior housing complex, Wheeler Manor, opened in 1993.

2002

In 2002, the Altenheim closed due to financial difficulties.

2005

Volunteers of the Altenheim Association occupied the grounds to ensure the protection of the facility until the site was acquired by Citizens Housing in 2005.

2009

Eden acquired the Fireside from Citizens Housing in 2009, completing the preservation of the historic Fireside Inn building which now serves as management offices and a community center with a computer lab for resident use.

2014

In 2014, Eden acquired its first farmworker housing communities.
