Edenwald company history timeline

1881

Our senior living community began in June 1881 as The General German Aged People’s Home of Baltimore.

1906

Her grade school was mostly white and her junior high school was more mixed. It soon moved to a storefront on Ninth Street, and in 1906 a Carnegie library was built across the street.

1960

In the late 1960’s she began noticing that gangs were forming, most notably the Black Spades.

1971

Designed by architect Giorgio Cavaglieri, the building opened to the public in August 1971.

1974

And in 1974, as residents began clamoring for air-conditioning, private bathrooms and other modern amenities, plans took shape for what is now the 4.5-acre Edenwald, which translates to "Eden Forest" in German, according to the booklet.

1975

Known as “Prospect Branch” until 1975, Park Slope Branch began at the turn of the century with a small collection of natural history books housed in Prospect Park’s Litchfield Mansion.

1982

The marketing office for Edenwald opened in October 1982 on Kenilworth Drive in Towson and within two years, 60 percent of the apartments were reserved.

2007

Authorities say the gangs wreaked havoc on the area in a turf war around the two housing projects dating to 2007, with 2Fly slinging drugs and stashing guns at an Eastchester playground.

2021
