The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in providing nursing care of the surgical patient in the OR suite.
To utilize specialized knowledge of surgical techniques while giving direct and indirect patient care.
Demonstrates and adheres to principles of aseptic techniques.
Knowledgeable of all basic set-ups for surgical procedures.
Assists in ensuring patient safety. To perform the tasks of the "scrub" role.

Scrubs, gowns, and gloves members of surgical team following aseptic techniques.
Assists in set up of operating room with all necessary equipment and supplies.
Assists with the preparation, transportation, and monitoring of patients.
Arranges instruments according to routine for given procedure.
Handles instruments according to routine for given procedure.
Maintains sterile field throughout the surgical procedure.
Performs room clean up following procedures, as well as general housekeeping duties.
Provides assistance in emergency situations as directed.
Functions in the role of second assistant following successful skills demonstration.
To function efficiently as a member of the surgical team.
Provides assistance to team members, physicians, and anesthesia personnel as needed (i.e. reliability, initiative, work relations, training needs).
Reviews physicians' preference cards and updates as needed.
Assists with stocking, preparation, and waste management of supplies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
To support quality activities.
Participates in ongoing committees and other educational programs to enhance patient care.
Maintains current CPR certification.
The Operating Room Technician must be a High School graduate or have completed a GED course.
In addition, successful completion of O.R. technician course and 2 years experience is preferred.
The successful candidate must have the ability to work independently as well as function within a team;
Must have a basic knowledge of surgical technique;
Will assist in providing care for the surgical patient;
Must possess the ability to handle stress.
