Home / Employment / AdjunctInstructor - Math (General Call) DESCRIPTION OF JOB: The Department of Physical, Computational, and Mathematical Sciences at Edgewood University invites applications for adjunctinstructors to develop and/or teach graduate-level mathematics courses for returning adult secondary mathematics teachers seeking to become qualified to teach dual-enrollment math classes.
Candidates with specialties in any mathematical subfield are welcome: the Department is especially interested in applications from candidates with expertise in the areas of analysis, number theory, or abstract algebra. The courses are intended to be 8-week, online offerings.
Responsibilities:
The faculty member will cooperate with the online design team to design courses and implement teaching strategies that facilitate student engagement and success with mathematics. Contributions to efforts such as department-wide assessment reports are also expected
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Education or Work Experience:
* A Ph.D. in Mathematics is required
* Experience teaching in a higher-education setting is preferred
* Experience teaching in an online or blended setting is preferred
Required Knowledge and Skills:
* An enthusiastic, reflective approach to teaching.
* Ability to engage adult students in developing the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to reach their learning goals.
* Ability to work collaboratively with department colleagues and others on campus.
* Proficiency in the use of technology, such as learning management systems and online homework platforms.

Instructors would be responsible for planning, implementing, and grading formative and summative assessments in lecture and lab. They will also be expected to work with other instructors to ensure alignment between different sections of a course. All courses are managed through an online LMS (Canvas) and instructors are expected to maintain an updated course site throughout the semester.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Education or Work Experience:
Candidates must have a master's degree or ABD in biology or a closely related field; a PhD is preferred. Previous experience teaching at the college level is highly preferred. Work with the division chair and deans to identify appropriate adjunctinstructors for the computer and data science programs.
Teach in both traditional and hybrid learning environments.
Maintain oversight and inventory of the computer lab.
Lead assessment activities for the program wherever coursework is delivered.
Hold regular office hours on a weekly basis.
Respond in a timely manner to calls or emails from students, colleagues, or supervisors.
Participate in institutional service opportunities as assigned.
Use university technology as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must hold a terminal degree in Computer Science or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Candidates who are ABD and making satisfactory progress toward completion will also be considered.
Successful teaching experience in higher education is preferred.
Industry credentials and certifications such as Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), AWS Certified Solutions Architect-Professional, Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) are desirable.
