We have an opening for a Diesel Mechanic to perform preventative maintenance on our garbage trucks at our site in Gilmer, Texas. Individuals with experience working on heavy diesel trucks or those that have completed a Diesel Technology program are encouraged to apply.This position has a start time of 2:00pm, working a 10+ hour shift, with occasional overtime. Must have 3 years experience if hired into this labor grade from the outside. * Must have a good general working knowledge of the following: * Diesel Engine * Auto Electric * Transmission * Hydraulics * Power Train Must be able to work alone or with an "A" or "B" mechanic. * This individual must learn to use, service, parts and technical manuals. * Required tools shall be a complete set of standard tools as follows: * The Company shall provide specialized tools not listed. * This individual will need assistance and supervision with the disassembling, inspection and identifying of worn failed components. * He is expected to continue with education and reading technical update manuals and also by taking refresher training courses given by manufacturing dealerships consistent with this program and labor grades. Company shall send bargaining unit employees to school. The parties shall identify courses and manuals such courses shall be at the Company's expense. Including, but not limited to: * Drive company mechanic truck to pick up parts and help trucks when issues arrive off site. * Trouble shoot problems with machinery * Repair engines, engine-cooling systems, drivetrain parts, brake systems, and basic electrical parts * Remove and replace parts of hydraulic systems and tool attachments (shears, forks, grapples) * Remove and repair some body parts, ladders, platforms, catwalks, and engine covers * Perform limited torch cutting and welding * Clean up work area at the end of shift * Keep work areas neat and orderly * Regular attendance and punctuality are essential job functions * Organizing materials to have more effective use of space * Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner * Inspection to ensure cleanup is completed * Effective housekeeping in workplace area is an ongoing operation for safety and better hygienic conditions for all team members. Qualifications * Employees in this position prior to April 2014 are presumed to be qualified and are "grandfathered" into their positions. * Must pass a medical physical and drug test * Must pass a background check * Preferred - high school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable * Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus * Ability to: communicate with others effectively; understand direction (written or oral) and use basic math skills as the job demands * Diesel Mechanic school or certification preferred * Previous experience hydraulic repairs a plus * Forklift experience a plus Job Expectations Comply with all applicable federal, state, local, & SA Recycling safety, health, & environmental rules, regulations, policies, & procedures.
