    JOB TITLE: CROSS WALK MONITOR PRIMARY PURPOSE: To insure that students are able to safely cross roadways at crosswalks and reach school safely. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: None required - Will train applicants in techniques used to safely cross students MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Be at assigned school crossing(s) on time and stay at assigned post for the complete scheduled time. Must have transportation or the ability to travel to assigned post. Stop all traffic before allowing children to enter crosswalk. This will require working in conjunction with any traffic signal that may be in place. Stand at least in the middle of the crosswalk with hand held out, stop sign held high for all motorists to see until all children are completely out of the crosswalk. Wear the issued hat and reflective vest at all times and carry the hand held stop sign. Report any disobedient children that fail to follow instructions to supervisor and/or school personnel. Report motorists that continually disobey the crossing guard's instruction to stop and yield to pedestrian traffic to the WISD police supervisor. Notify supervisor of a change in home address or phone number. Notify supervisor if unable to report to assigned post in a sufficient amount of time that would allow a replacement to be obtained. Also, notify the supervisor if a circumstance arises that will cause a late report to a post or if a reason exists that will necessitate leaving early. In a one or one or small group setting, this person must be willing to work with students who may demonstrate physical aggression, engage in frequent outbursts, and who may be emotionally, physically and/or mentally impaired. Essential Functions: Assists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities. Work with individual children or small groups of children to reinforce new skills initially introduced by the teacher. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines. Provide verbal support, prompting, redirection, and modeling to help the students access the curriculum and interact with certified staff members and learning activities. Work cooperatively with other paraprofessionals, certified and licensed staff to facilitate positive interactions for the student with all staff and the ability to take instructions from a variety of school staff who are responsible for the student's education. Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the classroom teacher and the special services program coordinator for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives. Length of Contract: Varies by Sport ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policy approved by the Edmond Board of Education and is responsible for its implementation by the entire staff of the sports program. * Has knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations, implements same consistently and interprets them for staff. * Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meeting that require attendance. * Provides training, rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES N/A. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS. * Employment as a teacher in the Edmond School District * Has ability to organize and supervise a total sports program * Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport * The ability to advise, coordinate and support a staff of assistant coaches EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate, SDE and OSSAA Certification/Training LANGUAGE SKILLS N/A MATHEMATICAL SKILLS. N/A REASONING SKILLS: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Demonstrate punctuality and good attendance. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Knowledge of confidentiality laws, CPR, first aid. Demonstrate caring and compassionate personality & patience. Ability to make responsible judgments for students' safety. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Excellent physical health required (lifting, climbing, crawling, restraining, transferring and positioning of students).
