The Education Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating education activities of Nationwide Children?s Hospital and its subsidiaries in collaboration with clinical, research, administrative and community partners. Responsible for project/program development, fiscal management and administrative support for assigned education activities.

Responsibilities

? Coordinates initial and ongoing development of education programs. Recommends new programs and technology based on evaluation and needs assessment. Participates in the development of an annual plan for community education that is consistent with strategic priorities.? Collaborates with Marketing, community partners, hospital and physician leaders, coordinators and program committee to increase the visibility of Nationwide Children's Hospital?s education programs. Maintains up-to-date information on the Web.? Coordinates formative and summative evaluation of education programs. Aggregates data for trend analysis. Assists in implementation and tracking of improvements.? Manages files and databases to assure complete and accurate records. Ensures reports are accurate and submitted in a timely manner. Maintains reporting and regulatory initiatives as assigned. ? Manages meeting planning. Recommends and administers operations and expenses for assigned cost centers. Participates in ongoing professional development activities.? Qualifications

EDUCATION: College degree or equivalent experience required LICENSURE: Must have a valid Ohio driver?s license for travel as necessary.CERTIFICATIONS: For Graduate Medical Education positions only ? Training Administrators of Graduate Medical Education (TAGME) certification is required within three years of start for candidates without a college degree.SKILLS: Proficiency in MS Office. Excellent oral and written communication. Strong command of the English language, grammar and spelling. Interdisciplinary program planning required. Data analysis and analytical thinking.EXPERIENCE: 3 ? 5 years? experience in program planning or project management. Supervisory experience is also desired. Overview

Coordinates community prevention education and activities for the Legacy Emanuel Trauma program including, providing education to the public on a variety of topics related to trauma injury and prevention. Develops relationships with other agencies and organizations with the goal of enhancing the health status of those in the community.

Responsible for recruitment, coordination of training, ongoing communication and evaluation of instructors and department support staff. Develops and implements annual calendar of classes. Participates in program planning and evaluation. Participates in the development of new venues and curricula for trauma education. Reviews and evaluates class materials. Facilitates the educational process, including resolution of operating issues. Provides input to and monitoring of budget, including and maintains compliance with Legacy policies.

Responsibilities

PROGRAM OPERATIONS :

Coordinates the process for scheduling and implementing a variety of community offerings within the scope of trauma prevention.

Develops relationships with other agencies and organizations with the goal of enhancing the health status of those in the community.

Maintains effective database of instructors, including preparation, areas of interest and expertise, and availability; and maintaining lines of communication with other trauma education coordinators.

Develops and implements an annual calendar of classes for Legacy Trauma Prevention community education and events as assigned. Responsible for appropriate communications with instructors, hospital site schedulers and catering services, and other support services. Ensures that the schedule is published, updated and distributed to appropriate departments and the community.

Provides ongoing problem solving and conflict resolution support to instructors, trauma support staff and hospital support departments.

Provides input into the development of the annual budget for Trauma Nurses Talk Tough; monitors operating budget. Ensures compliance with Legacy policies.

Monitors compliance with all contracts and grants including provision of data to fulfill grant reporting requirements on a timely basis.

Maintains efficient program operations through effective distribution of supplies and materials; regular review and updating of forms and materials; and knowledge of and adherence to appropriate policies.

COORDINATION OF INSTRUCTOR STAFF :

Facilitates effective communication, training and education of the community by staff instructors.

Acts as primary point of communication with instructors and community partners. Facilitates communication between instructors, support staff, community partners and the Trauma Program Manager.

Obtains input from instructors and others regarding staff development and educational opportunities. Schedules in-services as identified.

Gathers and summarizes input for ongoing and annual performance reviews of instructors and support staff, and reviews with manager.

Develops and implements an orientation process for new instructors and support staff, including class specific elements. Incorporates new ideas for training programs as appropriate.

PLANNING AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT :

Participates in ongoing efforts to evaluate client and community needs and provide effective education. Represents Legacy and Legacy Emanuel Trauma Program within the community.

Maintains knowledge base regarding community standards for educational approaches, principles of adult teaching, and national trends; provides input for annual operating plans.

Participates effectively in program planning, periodically evaluates the educational programs and materials for currency and effectiveness. Responsible for the development and review of class materials. Assists in identifying national benchmarks to be used in developing new and innovative approaches.

Reviews information on client satisfaction and class effectiveness; develops other quality initiatives as appropriate.

ROLE DEVELOPMENT AND ADVOCACY :

Maintains and utilizes knowledge base in trauma prevention and education.

Works collaboratively with other educators and health care providers to advocate for and facilitate optimal health through education.

Participates in direct teaching as required; observes or designates a trained educator to observe all instructors during orientation and on a regular basis for evaluation purposes.

Provides information to others that promotes understanding and support of trauma prevention education.

Represents Legacy Health System, Emanuel Medical Center and Emanuel Level I Trauma Center in local, state and national venues.

Demonstrates ability to work effectively in a team- oriented environment; in a manner that utilizes flexibility in scheduling, work hours, and approach.

Demonstrates commitment and sensitivity in working with culturally diverse populations.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in education, other job related field. Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

Two years of experience in trauma prevention and education or related experience required.

The Registered Nurse/Registered Dietician/Inpatient Diabetic Educator provides assessment, planning, facilitation, and advocacy for optimal clinical and financial outcomes. In collaboration with the attending practitioner, the family and other members of the health care team, coordinates the individualized plan of care and communicates the plan to appropriate stakeholders. The Registered Nurse/Registered Dietician/Inpatient Diabetic Educator assists with appropriate use of resources both within the facility and external to the facility. Communication and collaboration may include coordinating admissions with referring facilities and providers, utilization review, discharge planning, transportation, and care coordination. The Registered Nurse/Inpatient Diabetic Educator ensures that high quality care is provided as efficiently and cost effectively as possible.
RN applicants must have:

+ BSN degree with a minimum of two years of recent clinical nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics.OR MSN degree with a minimum of one year's recent nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics.

+ Will Consider: ADN degree with a minimum of three years recent nursing experience; pediatric subspecialty preferred.

+ Current RN License in the State of Alabama. Current BLS certificate required, BLS Instructor preferred.Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) certification required or must obtain within 2 years.

OR

Registered Dietitian applicants must have:

?Master's degree in food and nutrition from a program accredited by the American Dietetic Association with at least 12 months of clinical nutrition work experience preferred, pediatric experience preferred, and certification in area of specialization preferred.

?OR Bachelor's degree in nutrition from a program accredited by the American Dietetic Association and certification in area of specialization (CDCES) with 2 years of clinical nutrition work experience required, pediatric experience preferred. Completion of a pediatric nutrition traineeship preferred, but not required.

+ At least 1 year experience with a focus on pediatrics preferred.

+ Licensed by the State Board of Examiners for Dietetics/Nutrition Practice in the State of Alabama required. Registered Dietitian by the Commission of Dietetics Registration required.

+ Current BLS certificate required, BLS Instructor preferred

+ Certified Diabetes Care Education Specialist (CDCES) required or must obtain within 2 years.
