Education Northwest company history timeline

1978

Lutheran High School Northwest, Detroit’s fourth Lutheran high school, opened in September of 1978 in the educational wing of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Farmington Hills.

1979

The school’s original building, known as the Summit School building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and has been designated an official City of Seattle historic landmark.

1980

The Northwest School opened its doors in the fall of 1980 to 230 students.

1981

In May of 1981, community objections to the school’s presence brought to light an ordinance limiting the site’s use as a Lutheran High School.

1987

On February 20, 1987, construction began on the 29-acre site in Rochester Hills.

Many doubted the timetable for opening school on September 1, 1987.

2006

Another wing to the Summit School building was completed in 2006, providing a computer lab, photography dark room, music room, and dance studio. prevnext

2017

Passed in 2017, Oregon Senate Bill 13: Tribal History/Shared History takes a meaningful step toward a reconciliation in education, as well as recognition of tribal perseverance and sovereignty.
