Since 1967, the Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 in Waco has employed dedicated staff members who provide an array of programs and services to regional districts and charter schools.
1967 – The 60th Texas Legislature expanded the Regional Education Service Centers’ (RESCs) services and designated the roles of each service center in coordinating
REX DANIELS, Vice Chairman Lampasas & Mills Counties Rex Daniels entered the field of education in 1971 as a teacher and coach in Garland ISD. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Texas A & M University and a Master of Arts in Education from Stephen F. Austin University.
He began his career in education in 1982, teaching and coaching in Lovelady, Texas.
1984 – The Texas Legislature passed House Bill 72, which directed the RESCs to work closer with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and school districts to raise the quality of district programs and enhance uniformity and consistency in district operations.
1992 – The SBOE adopted revised rules for the operation of RESCs.
1997 – The 75th Legislature reauthorized the existence of the RESCs by passing Senate Bill 1158.
An attached conference center was added in 2003 to allow the service center to accommodate the growing number of school district personnel they service.
He has been a board member for ESC Region 12 since 2007.
Maze became executive director in May of 2011.
He started his education career as a teacher/coach at China Spring, Crawford, and Midway ISD, and served as a campus principal at Oglesby and Troy ISD. He later became Superintendent of Lorena ISD, and after 33 years in education, he retired as Superintendent of Troy ISD in 2011.
In August of 2012, the ESC relocated to the former Pilgrim's Pride World Headquarters building just north of Pittsburg.
Turpin joined the ESC Region 12 Board of Directors in 2015.
Maze is the 2019 recipient of the Thomas Poe Regional Service Center Leadership Award in recognition of his leadership to school administrators.
