What Does An Educational Manager Do At McKesson

* Supervise the regional Nurse Educators in their territory.
* Manage the day to day scheduling of Nurse Educators in their territory.
* Work with the Program Management and Merck to decide the most efficient allocation of nursing resources.
* Conduct performance evaluations, work with HR on resolving the HR issues/concerns of the nurse educators, and manage the routine staffing issues such as PTO, sick time, etc.
* Monthly or every other month field travel with each nurse to assess and evaluate their communication and presentation in the MD office/clinic
* Management of new Nurse Educator onboarding as needed
* Prepares and conducts on sight nurse educator meetings twice a year
* Evaluates each nurse educator territory for adequate coverage and in service needs
* Manages all conference attendance and feedback loops
* Works with all key stakeholders to fill open positions as soon as possible
* Key contact for team feedback on tools and materials
* Makes recommendations on nurse educator and program needs for continual success
* Partners to organize training on new indications and process for the Nurse Educators
* Attends client national sales meeting and aligns content and training to team needs
* Communicates with client field representatives and other relevant client personnel with regards to Nurse Educator performance
* Communicates the progress, challenges and accomplishments of nurses and of the program to all parties
* Explains goals, expectations to the Nurse Educator team (communication management of a remote team)
* Identify and share best practices across regions and territories
* In addition to the management responsibilities, the Nurse Educator Manager Oncology will be required to conduct Nurse Educator responsibilities as needed for priority coverage needs which include but are not limited to:
* o Provide education through in-services to HCPs and HCP staff on product
* o Specific information including but not limited to product information, disease state information, dosing protocols and information, administration of product, and adverse events of product.
* o Foster the continued and proper use of the product.
* o Engage in Program related communications with Manufacturer's field based sales force (representatives and district managers).
* o Communicate to the Program Director any feedback regarding concerns identified during the in-service interactions.
* Program Director will serve as the single point of contact with Manufacturer for all Program related communication.
* o Communicate to the Program Director any questions/concerns the HCP and/or the HCP staff have regarding the product and its reimbursement.
* o Accurate and timely reporting of all visits, including but not limited to the type of training conducted, length of visit, and office that was visited.
* A visit is deemed as a customer interaction- in-services and scheduled or unscheduled customer engagements.
* o Report on interactions with HCPs and HCP staff.
* o Coordinate and schedule travel to oncology offices with the Manufacturer's sales representative.
* o Other duties as assigned; Job duties may vary by location.
* Candidate must obtain the Oncology Nurse Certification within the first year of employment.
* Required Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (RN)
* At least 2 year's management experience in a healthcare setting.
* Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN)
* Active member of Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)
* At least 3 year's nurse educator experiencing within pharmaceutical or a hospital setting.
* Active nursing license to be in good standing in at least one state in which the in-services are being conducted.
* Must have at least five (5) years of recent oncology nursing experience that includes at least five (5) years of general nursing experience in, but is not limited to, direct patient care, physical assessment, patient education, group in servicing, and proficiency in peripheral IV access.
* Chemotherapy infusion experience is a must.
* Demonstrated problem solving skills.
* Valid motor vehicle license and proof of insurance.
* Proven success utilizing good communication, speaking, and writing skills.
* Ability to travel, including overnight travel.
* Amount of travel varies by territory but may be up to 100% travel.

Many employers prefer or require training and development managers to have a master’s degree, usually with a concentration in training and development, human resources management, organizational development, or business administration.

Training and development managers also may benefit from studying instructional design, behavioral psychology, or educational psychology. In addition, as technology continues to play a larger role in training and development, a growing number of organizations seek candidates who have a background in information technology or computer science.

Work Experience in a Related Occupation

Related work experience is essential for training and development managers. Many positions require work experience in training and development or another human resources field, management, or teaching. For example, many training and development managers start out as training and development specialists. Some employers also prefer experience in the industry in which the company operates. Increasingly, employers are looking for workers with experience in information technology as organizations introduce more e-learning and technology-based tools.

Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations

Although training and development managers are not legally required to be certified, certification can show professional expertise and credibility. Many employers prefer to hire certified candidates, and some positions may require certification.

Many professional associations for human resources professionals offer classes to enhance the skills of their members. Some associations, including the Association for Talent Development and International Society for Performance Improvement, specialize in training and development and offer certification programs.

Important Qualities

Communication skills. Training and development managers must clearly communicate information and facilitate learning by diverse audiences. They also must be able to effectively convey instructions to their staff.

Critical-thinking skills. Training and development managers use critical-thinking skills when assessing classes, materials, and programs. They must identify the training needs of an organization and recognize where changes and improvements can be made.

Decisionmaking skills. Training and development managers must select or create the best training programs to meet the needs of the organization. For example, they must review available training methods and materials and choose those that best fit each program.

Interpersonal skills. Training and development managers need strong interpersonal skills because delivering training programs requires collaborating with staff, trainees, subject matter experts, and the organization’s leaders. They also accomplish much of their work through teams.

Leadership skills. Managers are often in charge of a staff and are responsible for many programs. They must be able to organize, motivate, and instruct those working under them.
