The University of Detroit Mercy's Simulation Technology and Research (STAR) Center, located within the College of Health Professions, invites applications for a part-time position (12 months/year). The position seeks a highly motivated educator to enhance student's learning experience with hands-on simulated activities and promote consistent positive outcomes.
The Simulation Education Specialist collaborates with faculty to facilitate various simulation activities, consult on research projects, conduct needs assessments, and design and implement evidence-based simulation experiences. This role enhances healthcare education through the innovative use of simulation methodologies. The specialist bridges the gap between theory and practice across multidisciplinary programs.
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role and is determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Simulation Integration
Manages and evaluates the facilitation process of simulation experiences on Blackboard, including scenario pre-learning, pre-briefing, debriefing, student reflections, and student evaluation data.
Facilitation, operation, and debriefing of simulation scenarios to maximize learning.
Collaborates with program directors to design simulation scenarios that reflect real-world clinical challenges.
Collaborates with program directors to develop assessment tools to measure student performance and identify areas for remediation.
Collaborates with program directors and simulation tech to coordinate simulation schedules and events.
Faculty and Learner Support
Provides orientation of the simulation center and equipment to novice faculty and learners.
Set up and strike down simulation and clinical skills activities, ensuring all equipment and supplies are available.
Collaborates with the simulation tech to develop instructional materials for setting up and using task trainer models, manikins, and equipment.
Maintains knowledge of standards of best simulation practices, hospital and community policies, and program accreditation requirements.
Ensure simulations align with national accreditation standards and competency requirements.
Event Participation and Promotion
Participates and assists in STAR events (open house, orientation, accepted student day, simulation week, community events).
Leads tours of the STAR center for various groups and organizations.
Assists the STAR director with data, research activities, and other duties as needed.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education -Bachelor degree in Nursing.
Experience -Two years to five years (Equivalent combination of education and employment).
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Preferred: Master's degree in Nursing, healthcare, or related discipline.
Work Experience:
· Preferred: Experience in patient simulation services and technologies.
Special Note
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with a record of commitment to teaching in an educational or clinical setting.
Physical Requirements

Work Environment
Conditions are those of a typical office, classroom, healthcare environment, requiring frequent oral and written communication with college employees, students, and vendors, the presentation of information on-line and in face-to-face settings, and the ability to enter data and written communications in electronic format in a timely manner. The ability to be generally and continuously aware of the safe and appropriate operation of the lab equipment and material is essential.
The Simulation Technology and Research center mimics hospital rooms and other healthcare clinical settings. Components of a simulation lab include:
Healthcare equipment
Health status monitors
Supplies for medication administration
Emergency intervention kits
High and Low fidelity simulation manikins and task trainers
Patient hospital beds and exam tables
Licenses/Certifications
Registered Nurse (RN), Respiratory Therapist (RT), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C), Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P).
Salary/Pay Information
4-Tier Pay Scale Commensurate with Education and Experience.
Anticipated Schedule
Up to 20 hours per week.
The individual in this position is expected to be generally present and available throughout the year during the normal business hours of the college and may occasionally have work obligations outside of the college's normal business hours.

The Special Education Coordinator is an individual who works in compliance with additional oversight
duties. In addition to providing guidance and coordinating the provisions of special education, the
special education coordinator manages all aspects of the school's SPED and 504 programs. The Special
Education Coordinator will serve multiple schools. The Special Education Coordinator should have a
robust understanding of the special education and Section 504 processes, and state and federal
compliance requirements under IDEA and ADA Section 504. The Special Education Coordinator assists
with performing child find activities, evaluations, and develops IEPs and 504 Accommodation plans to
maintain program compliance. The Special Education Coordinator is able to support the school
administration with specialized knowledge about specialized instruction and SPED/Section 504
requirements.
The Special Education Coordinator is knowledgeable about the needs of students with disabilities and
ensures that specialized instruction is aligned with IEPs or Section 504 Plans, is data-driven and is
provided with fidelity. The Special Education Coordinator assists with the designing of and provides
specialized instruction and oversees the scheduling of Special Education Teachers and Paraeducators to
ensure the delivery of high quality specialized instruction and supports to students with disabilities. The
highly effective Special Education Coordinator works collaboratively with the campus Instructional
Coach/Designee to ensure quality and consistency in the instruction of students with disabilities by
providing direct and indirect instructional support to all teachers. The Special Education Coordinator
also supports campus teachers by providing teachers support to improve instruction and increase
academic outcomes for students with disabilities through professional development and 1-1
collaboration.
The Special Education Coordinator position follows a 12-month calendar.
Requirements
Required Education and Qualifications:
Current Special Education Certification
Strong knowledge of the special education process and state and federal compliance requirements
Strong knowledge of Section 504 of the ADA and federal compliance requirements
Strong foundational knowledge in special education and the impact of disabilities on student learning
Strong knowledge of specialized instruction, differentiated instruction, and inclusion support
Strong knowledge of data analysis and using data to drive instruction
Desired Qualifications:
3 or more years of special education teaching experience
Experience developing and planning specialized instruction based on student IEPs
Experience with case management and coordination
The ability to write IEPs and MET reports that meet state and federal compliance requirements

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY/WORK
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Coordinator provides administrative support to the Children's Learning Center in maintaining high quality education. The ECE Coordinator will be responsible for providing administrative support to the center to ensure compliance with accreditation, funders and licensing requirements. The ECE Coordinator assists the Early Childhood Education Manager in creating and operationalizing the overall recruitment and engagement strategy.
The ECE Coordinator is responsible for acquiring and maintaining current knowledge of the Children's Learning Center, including admission and eligibility criteria; for inquires, tours and enrollments of potential families and children for childcare and preschool. The ECE Coordinator is responsible for providing accurate billing and food program data. The position provides leadership in coordinating family and community events and volunteer opportunities.
The ECE Coordinator provides coverage in the absence of the ECE Manager and is a back-up at times the manager is unavailable. The position reports to the Early Childhood Education Manager in Pontiac.
Recruitment and Enrollment Management
In partnership with the Early Childhood Education Manager, the Coordinator is responsible for the overall recruitment strategy.
Monitors and responds timely to all incoming calls, documenting all information and tracking specifics needs from the caller.
Keeps accurate tracking of enrollment for tuition-based programming and GSRP program by week, month and year.
Coordinates time to review enrollment paperwork with families and ensure paperwork is completed correctly and thoroughly.
Screens and verifies eligibility for the Great Start Readiness Program according to State program implementation guidelines.
Ensures enrollment criteria are met prior to attendance i.e. DHHS approvals, Health appraisals and all applicable licensing requirements.
Partners with the ECE Manager on all child classroom placements based on age and/or developmental level of child and program availability.
Maintains the center's waiting lists for Tuition, Great Start Readiness Program and Summer Camp programs.
Works closely with Oakland Schools to obtain referrals, utilize training opportunities and other resources available.
Schedules and facilitates center tours, open houses, enrollments fairs, family engagement events and community events.
Effectively communicates with families regarding available funding for all programs.
Works closely with management on enrollment goals for each classroom.
Collaborates and communicates frequently with the Marketing Department on upcoming events, themes, and all social media needs.

Tracks and audits staff professional development and credential records to ensure state and/or national compliance. Will coordinate with the ECE Manager when there is non-compliance.

Audits Child Files quarterly to ensure compliance.

Supports ECE Manager in the maintaining and auditing of program files to ensure compliance with GSRP, State Licensure and NAEYC accreditation.
Attends CLC and Agency staff meetings and all agency Leadership meetings as directed.
Maintains and adheres to standards of State licensure including knowledge of all licensing rules and timely reporting of potential violations to both internal and external authorities.
In partnership with the ECE Manager, determines each child's free lunch status according to Federal guidelines, A, B and C coding.
