We are currently hiring for an experienced nursing educator to join our Simulation team as a Simulation Education Specialist (SES) on our Draper, UT campus. The Simulation Education Specialist (SES) is responsible for facilitating immersive learning experiences in the Joyce Johnson Center (JJC) of Simulation for our Nursing and Health Sciences programs and community partners. Serving as an expert in simulation pedagogy, the SES will work closely with the Assistant Director of Simulation and Learning Labs, the Simulation Curriculum Coordinator, and the simulation staff to deliver simulation-based experiences enhancing clinical judgment and decision making. This full-time position is located on our Draper, UT campus.

WHAT YOU DO EVERYDAY:
Promotes the mission, vision, and values of Joyce University.
Highly knowledgeable in simulation standards and pedagogy, including simulation design, simulation outcomes and objectives, prebrief, debrief, and evaluation methods.
Responsible for understanding theoretical principles of adult learning and educational processes in curricular design and delivery.
Facilitates simulation-based experiences using Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice™ (HSSOP).
Knowledgeable in simulation delivery modalities, including high-fidelity simulators, virtual-reality, and virtual simulation.
Demonstrates knowledge in resources to augment learning such as electronic charting systems, automated medication dispensing devices, audio-visual equipment, and virtual-reality.
Work closely with the Simulation and Learning Labs Operation Manager and Simulation and Learning Lab Techs to ensure the simulation environment and debrief rooms are ready for the simulation experiences.
Assist learners with identifying knowledge gaps and provide opportunities for improvement utilizing available resources and tools.
Provide professional learner feedback after simulation-based experiences, communicating effectively with both the student and the clinical instructor on record.
Provide opportunities to mentor learners through open-simulation experiences, assisting them to improve their skillset, clinical judgement, and critical thinking abilities.
Collaborate with the Simulation Curriculum Coordinator and the nursing team to develop additional scenarios, activities, and tools to meet the course learning objectives.
Contribute to the development and evaluation of the simulation center goals, objectives, policies, procedures, priorities, and work standards.
Promotes and support inter-professional learning activities across programs.
Provide input in the annual operating budget for the simulation center.
As needed, operate equipment, and assists with room set-up, tear-down, and moulage.
Assist with, plan, and participate in regularly scheduled department meetings.
Assist in the full-accreditation process through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare accreditation requirements.
Maintain professional growth and development through activities such as CHSE certification, seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to maintain an understanding latest trends in field of expertise, staying current with national and international advances in simulation and clinical skills activities.
Other duties as assigned.

2. Participate in a brief (3-4 days) teaching practicum in a local seminary.
3. Student Teach. Student teachers are selected from successful practicum participants. There are more practicum participants than there are student teacher openings in any given term.
Student teachers are hired to teach one or two seminary classes in a local seminary. Student teachers are paid for teaching time, and for preparation and administrative time. The typical student teacher assignment is a 15-20 hour per week position.
The student teacher experience can last from one semester/trimester up to a full high school academic year, and in some cases even longer. During this time, student teachers continue the training process and are assessed and evaluated throughout as they are considered for employment. Decisions about full-time employment are made by the administration of Seminaries and Institutes in Salt Lake City. Decisions about part-time employment are made by local S&I administrators and depend on current demand. There are always more student teachers than there are openings in any given year.

Schedule
Seminary instructors are expected to work the time necessary to accomplish their assigned teaching and administrative responsibilities. Full-time seminary instructors are not eligible for overtime.
Full-time Workload
Those in a trimester system should teach four of the five trimester classes each trimester. Those in the eight-period block system should teach six of the eight classes each semester. Those in a seven-period day should teach a minimum of six classes.
When possible, the student to teacher ratio should be approximately 150-180 to one. It is recommended that there be no more than thirty-five students per class.

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, foster communication skills, develop an understanding and appreciation of literature of all types, motivate students to read a wide variety of publications to derive information, comprehend and critically assess the reading materials, and to promote the development of skills in the field of English reading, grammar and syntax.
Essential Functions
Develops and administers English education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
Teaches knowledge and skills in English grammar and syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary and proper word usage, word denotations and connotations, creative writing, independent thinking, communication and speaking.
Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions on a variety of reading materials, including the mass media, and a wide range of literature.
Works with students and others to prepare materials for inclusion in literary publications, contests, etc.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
Maintains familiarity with district standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, literature and other content areas taught.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

This position will work on a number of projects directed by an Extension faculty in Salt Lake County with the primary purpose of providing educational opportunities for youth, parents, and families designed to build resilience and prevent problem behaviors in youth.
Responsibilities
* Assist with the development of educational content.
* Plan and coordinate the implementation of classes, workshops, and outdoor learning activities.
* Deliver educational content and lead workshops for youth, parents, and/or families.
* Get trained in selected curricula, prep for program sessions, and teach program sessions.
* Work with participants from diverse backgrounds (e.g., refugees, immigrants)
* Help connect program participants with community resources as indicated.
* Conduct community outreach on behalf of projects by attending community events and engaging with parents, youth, and families, with the goal of recruiting program participants.
* Hours are flexible and variable, but the position will require some evening and weekend work.
Qualifications
Must have a bachelor's degree in a related field or three years of relevant work experience, including experience developing educational content and teaching youth or adults

The job of SpEd Para III is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program under the direction of an assigned teacher with specific responsibilities for assisting in the instruction, behavior support, and supervision of special needs students; monitoring student behavior during instructional and non-instructional times; providing information to appropriate school personnel; attending IEP meetings if requested; and skilled intervention implamentation under the direction of the classroom teacher or relatedlservice provider.
Essential Functions
Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g. medication, etc.) for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs.
Communicates with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
Implements under the supervision of classroom teacher or other service provider, behavioral plans and skilled interventions designed by IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
Monitor students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
Provides under the supervision of assigned teacher and IEP staff, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP plans; and ensuring student success in school.
Assists students with self-care activities (e.g. toileting, washing, changing diapers, eating, dressing, grooming, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students' personal hygiene.
Lifting must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. for the purpose of helping special education students.
Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records (e.g. decorating bulletin boards, making art projects, correcting papers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
Attends in meetings and in-service presentations (e.g. first aid, CPR, emergency procedures, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
