Under the direction of your preceptor and District Leader, you will complete a comprehensive training roadmap within 120 days of graduation designed to further your knowledge of store, district, and regional operations. Through your hands-on experience, training roadmap, and time spent with leaders in your district you will deepen your understanding of patient safety and error prevention, quality assurance drug utilization review (DUR), pharmacy professional standards such as corresponding responsibility and red flag detection. While in the pharmacy, you will assist the pharmacy team to ensure that pharmacy operations run smoothly, our patients' prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately, and we are providing caring service that exceeds patient expectations. You will learn to operate as part of the pharmacy team through consistent application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication. Throughout your shifts and in all customer and colleague interactions, you will learn to demonstrate empathy and genuine care, and contribute to a safe and inclusive culture where all people feel valued and empowered. As tenure and readiness increase, you will take on greater accountability for supporting the management, oversight, and operations within the pharmacy, including but not limited to: Living our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help our Pharmacists and Technicians manage and improve patient health Following pharmacy workflow procedures at each pharmacy workstation (i.e., production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment Contributing to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care: creating heartfelt and personalized moments while serving patients at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; keeping patients healthy by offering immunizations and other services at the register and over the phone; and demonstrating compassionate care by solving or escalating patient problems Offering to counsel, fielding medical questions, and soliciting information on a patient's medical history to provide optimal care, when appropriate under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist Taking telephonic prescriptions from the prescriber, and calling the prescriber to clarify prescriptions or facilitate medication changes, where allowed by state regulation Maintaining the highest level of self-awareness and providing in-the-moment coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members while sharing best practices Completing basic inventory activities, as permitted by law, and as directed by the pharmacy leadership team, such as accurately putting away medication deliveries and completing cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, waiting bin inventories, etc. Contributing to a high-performing team, embracing a growth mindset, and being receptive to feedback; actively seeking opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge needed to better assist patients Remaining flexible for both scheduling and business needs, while contributing to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic; voluntarily traveling to stores in the market to work shifts as needed by the business Understanding and complying with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles. Complying with CVS policies and procedures to ensure patient safety, compliance with controlled substance dispensing and recordkeeping, and to protect patient privacy and security Delivering additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing, and voluntarily staffing offsite clinics), where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification Where permissible, the Graduate Pharmacy Intern may also support immunizations, which includes the following responsibilities: Completing additional licensure and training requirements, in compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations, to obtain Technician Immunizer status to support preparing and administering vaccines Educating patients about vaccines and answering questions to obtain informed consent Monitoring for, and responding to, adverse reactions; reporting adverse reaction events per public health requirements Reviewing and collecting patient information; tracking and documenting for each applicable patient Required Qualifications: PharmD graduate of a U.S. accredited program prior to beginning the Post-Graduate Training Program at CVS Health Ability to obtain required pharmacist licensure within the required timeframe, per state guidelines. Failure to obtain required Pharmacist licensure within 120 days of graduation will result in separation of employment. They provide age and developmentally appropriate in-direct patient care to adult and geriatric patients. Pharmacy technician does not perform duties that may be legally performed only by a registered pharmacist. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist and reports to the Pharmacy Manager and Director of Pharmacy Services. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Adheres to the standard of care, standards of practice, policies and procedures of RML Specialty Hospital. Supports the Mission and Vision of RML Specialty Hospital by demonstrating RML's core values “Service, Teamwork, Accountability, Integrity, Respect and Stewardship” (STAIRS) in all actions. Exemplifies a service excellence culture in all interactions with patients, families and co-workers. Creates a positive environment by promoting teamwork and demonstrating an optimistic and encouraging attitude. Intervenes as necessary to correct inappropriate staff behavior. Provides medication preparation and delivery: Aseptically performs IV preparation adhering to the USP Chapter 797 guidelines. Prepares hazardous medications according to the NIOSH recommendations and USP Chapter 800 standards, not limited to: Compounding hazardous drug stock bottle suspension Prime IV tubing Performs non-sterile compounding according to USP Chapter 795 standards. Able to perform calculations required for sterile and on-sterile drug compounding. Fills new medication orders, unit-dose medication for med carts, automated drug dispensing machine re-stock lists, and replenish crash cart medications. Delivers controlled substances. Serves as a courier for accurate deliveries and pickups per established schedule and as requested. Performs inspections for patient care areas, pharmacy, drug night cabinets, automated drug dispensing machines, crash carts, and ancillary departments. Adheres to federal, state laws and regulations, and RML hospital policy and Standards of Practice on IV room cleaning standards. Adheres to financial compliance, appropriately processes patient charges and credits. Able to perform computer-based tasks: billing, reports, labels, and others as requested. Prepack bulk medication in unit-dose packages and maintains prepackaging records. Contributes to the management of the department budget, which includes appropriated purchasing through the drug wholesaler and decreased wastage. Participates in inventory control. Monitors stock levels in the dispensing and IV rooms. Checks and unpacks the IV and drug deliveries from vendors. Use the wholesaler's web site to order and return medication. Procures medications not available through the drug wholesaler Maintains proper storage and security measures for the drugs in the main pharmacy and in patient care areas. Contributes to the prevention of drug diversion. Complies with the pharmacy and hospital compliance programs. Knowledgeable in the proper disposal of pharmaceutical waste. Ensures that the pharmacy passes surveys and inspections by accrediting and regulatory agencies with no deficiencies or recommendations, not limited to: Illinois state inspections, Joint Commission, DEA, Illinois Department of Public Health, and CMS. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, visitor, and employee information. Complies with HIPAA and hospital policies regarding confidentiality of the patient's medical information, verbally, on-line, and in print. Complies with all hospital policies related to computer use and system security. Intervenes to prevent inappropriate communications among staff, especially in public places. Participates in departmental quality improvement and performance improvement activities, especially including opportunities to promote patient safety. Notes areas for improvement in day-to-day departmental operations and brings to the attention of the Pharmacy Manager or Director of Pharmacy Services. Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new employees. Assists coworkers in tasks, as time permits. Actively participates in staff meetings, safety huddles, educational in-services, committees or task forces, and attends meetings as may be assigned.
