    Issue Advocacy is seeking a summer intern to support our work in building alliances engaged on our current and emerging public policy issues and to support department wide initiative around local advocacy. The intern will also be encouraged to gain cross-functional experience across Public Affairs & Access to better understand how we leverage our communications, market access, government affairs, and externally-facing capabilities to drive impact for our patients, our people, and our communities where we live and work. Interns will have peer-to-peer support, networking opportunities, and career development opportunities with other interns in Public Affairs & Access as well as throughout Genentech. This internship position is located in Washington, DC - On site The Opportunity Our External Affairs team is looking for an intern to work in Washington D.C. and the states, as we look to educate and engage third party stakeholders, coalitions and alliances. In this role, you will work with the broader government affairs team to gain experience and understanding of our strategic advocacy plans and legislative priorities and will support our development of a local advocacy model. ● Attending external stakeholder events including but limited to: patient and provider policy summits, think tank briefings and trade association meetings. ● Engagement with external stakeholders to understand how key policies impact patients, their organizations and our business ● Conduct research on external organization policy positions and support External Affairs team projects, events, and other activities as needed ● Participate in team strategy sessions as we create advocacy plans on our key priorities Program Highlights Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship. Program start dates are in May/June. A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects. Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry. Who You Are Required Education (you meet one of the following criteria): Must be pursuing or have attained an Associate's Degree. Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student). Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program). Preferred Majors: Political Science, Business Administration, Communications, or Public Policy Required Skills Strong interest in public policy and the legislative process Strong analytical, writing, interpersonal, attention-to-detail, and communication skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Problem solving and an ability to apply strategic thinking in a complex environment Preferred Skills: Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Washington, DC is $20-28 hour.
