Since 1965, EF has helped millions of students study and travel abroad in its mission to break down barriers of language, cultural, and geography that divide us.
In 1965, he decided to start a small company called Europeiska Ferieskolan (European Holiday School – EF for short) that combined language learning with travel abroad.
Though hard to imagine today, traveling abroad to learn English was a radical concept in 1965.
EF English First has been a notable force in education and development since 1965 with schools and offices in major cities in China and Indonesia.
West Germany followed in 1969 and Japan three years later, just before the Japanese government decided to adopt the Western keyboard, making English its official computer language.
In 1993, he was a founding member of the Geneva based Mentor Foundation, “an independent, non-governmental, not for profit, apolitical organization” focused on supporting research and initiatives in drug prevention.
Over the next 30 years, EF continued to expand globally and in 1997, EF opened a local English language training center branch in Shanghai, China.
