What You'll Do:
Ensure compliance with all unit regulatory requirements by working within operations for the execution of required compliance activities and tasks. Become the unit's subject matter expert with respect to environmental and regulatory compliance. Accountable to the Operations Technical Leader with a dotted line to EH&S.

Develops, maintains, and implements detailed safety, health and environmental programs for the unit to achieve its goals and objectives.
Maintains a proactive unit specific program including detailed tasks and activities for safety, health and environmental compliance.
Area contact for safety, health, and environmental issues.
Instructs and coaches plant personnel in safety, health and environmental tasks and activities using continuous improvement methodologies.
Ensures compliance tasks are completed on time.
Provides safety, health and environmental input on outages, turnarounds and projects.
Performs unit specific safety, health and environmental monitoring, related data collection and reporting.
Provides input to the Activity Coordinator/Gatekeeper for safety, health and environmental tasks, audits, and assessments to be performed by Operations.
Responsible for maintaining and updating the safety, health and environmental aspects of operating discipline, procedures, and policies.
Conducts and documents investigations pertaining to safety, health and environmental event investigations and ensures action items are completed and updated.
Coordinates schedules for safety, health, and environmental audits.
Skills That Make a Difference:
High School Diploma & 10+ years operational experience within a system unit within a chemical plant; OR Bachelor's Degree in related field & 5+ years experience within a chemical plant.
Minimum 3 years of experience in target production area.
Demonstrated knowledge of unit compliance requirements and abatement equipment.
Budget management/oversight experience
Critical thinking skills for prioritizing information/tasks to develop short- and long-term maintenance schedules.
Self-driven with the ability to collaborate with various working groups.

Develop, implement and manage safety programs, policies and procedures.
Identify hazardous conditions/actions within the plant and recommend corrective measures.

What You Bring

The Safety Engineer is a part of the Pepper Construction Company Safety Department. This position is primarily field oriented and is structured to ensure safe work practices are implemented and enforced on Pepper Construction projects. The Safety Engineer position takes a leadership role in developing and promoting our Pepper Safety Culture. The Safety Engineer is a full-time representative whose primary responsibility is to manage health and safety related concerns, maintain required documentation, files, permits, and represent Pepper Construction's safety culture on the project site.
The position will be working primarily in and around a large project site in Fayette County, Ohio (located off of Interstate 71 between Columbus and Cincinnati).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations
Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries
Review daily Task Hazard Analysis
Engage with craft employees to drive safety message
Facilitate Incident Reporting and Root Cause Analysis
Assist in job site safety plans
Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and subcontractors to address safety concerns and maintain a safe work environment.
Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety activities and incidents.
Provide technical advice to field and office personnel
Conduct safety orientations and training sessions for new hires and existing team members
Investigate accidents and incidents and provide recommendations for correction actions
Coordinate with project team to ensure the Project Specific Safety Plan and the safety requirements are consistently and correctly implemented.
Assist Safety team with safety training program.
Audit THAs
Help with pre-start safety meetings with trade partners, including second & third tier before their work starts on projects which includes a review of Project Specific Safety Plans.
Identify areas of safety improvement and suggest the implementation of guidelines, policies, procedures and training
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in safety management, safety engineering, industrial hygiene or occupational environmental health and safety, or equivalent experience in a safety role for commercial projects
Experience on mission critical project sites, desirable
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in the areas of safety related to those conditions expected to be encountered on a construction site
Ability to be on-site, in Fayette County, every day - may include weekends
OSHA 30-hour certification, required
Demonstrate a high level of competency of effective communication with project personnel ranging from project management to frontline workers
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry best practices
Must be able to provide oversight and facilitate an event management process, including classification of potential event consequences, data collection, root cause analysis, correction action implementation, and sharing of lessons learned
Experience with MEP systems, with specific emphasis on electrical and mechanical isolation and lockout/tagout process coordination, preferred
Experience planning and implementing fall protection/prevention systems, rigging and hoisting, crane operations, underground utility damage prevention, environmental remediation, demolition, fire prevention, public protection, scaffolding, indoor air quality control, and mobile equipment, preferred
Ability to lift 50 pounds, frequent sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch, traverse rough terrain, climb ladders and stairs

+ Develop, implement and manage safety programs, policies and procedures.

What You'll Do:
Ensures compliance to all applicable regulatory requirements by working with others across the site for the execution of required compliance activities and tasks.
Becomes the a site subject matter expert with respect to environmental and regulatory compliance. Accountable to EH&S responsibilities.
What We're Looking For:
Serves as the unit resource for safety, health and environmental procedures, standards and regulatory requirements.
Participates in safety, health and environmental reviews and unit goal-setting as needed.
Develops, maintains, and implements detailed safety, health and environmental programs for the unit to achieve its goals and objectives.
Maintains a proactive unit specific program including detailed tasks and activities for safety, health and environmental compliance.
Site contact for safety, health, and environmental issues.
Instructs and coaches plant personnel in safety, health and environmental tasks and activities using continuous improvement methodologies.
Ensures compliance tasks are completed on time.
Provides safety, health and environmental input on outages, turnarounds and projects.
Conducts and documents investigations pertaining to safety, health and environmental event investigations and ensures action items are completed and updated.
Coordinates schedules for safety, health, and environmental audits.
Skills That Make a Difference:
High school diploma or equivalent
Basic knowledge of RCRA
Proven mechanical aptitude
Background in Microsoft Office
Attention to detail
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work with limited supervision
Considered a Plus:
Hazwopper certified
Formal RCRA and/or DOT training
DOT regulatory awareness
Experience classifying laboratory wastes
Hazardous waste management experience
Working Conditions:
Able to lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to work 50% outdoors year around
Able to work weekends and holidays as needed

The Position
OVE, a Congruex company is a rapidly expanding company seeking a EHS Specialist to support the Construction team. The EHS Specialist will serve as the cognizant expert in matters relating to HSE and shall have the authority to stop work activity in the event of imminent danger to the health and safety of workers, the public, or the environment. The Safety Specialist will ensure understanding and compliance with OVE, Congruex HSE Department, client, local, state, and federal government health, safety, and environmental regulations and requirements.
Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
Primary responsibilities will consist of the administration and management of a comprehensive HSE training and program compliance to promote and ensure safe work practices, conditions and worker activities of OVE subcontractor, sub-tiered subcontractor employees; as well as the integration of our company HSE policies with the client's HSE programs. Support all HSE efforts for OVE and promote Congruex Safety culture.
* Civil Underground and/or OSP Background
* Promote a positive attitude and the INCIDENT FREE philosophy
* Coordinate HSE activities with OVE customer(s)
* Plan, direct and conduct periodic HSE assessments of sites and offices
* Develop, organize, and provide additional safety training aside from annual training.
* Conduct OVE HSE orientations to acquaint employees with project conditions, safety work practices and procedures, and continuing HSE education programs
* Monitor subcontractors' and sub-tiered subcontractors' compliance with applicable HSE requirements\
* Supervise/assist in the facilitation/conducting of incident investigations. Ensure structured incident case management practices are consistently followed
* Interpret HSE regulations and requirements for OVE and all our projects.
* Complete and file timely HSE reports, and other reports as required.
* Ensure relevant reports are reviewed by Director of Safety, and OVE (Congruex) leadership team members.
* Issue regular reports displaying HSE performance and incident trends.
* Advise employees of hazardous conditions/concerns or near miss incidents
* Recommend disciplinary measures for HSE violations
* Up to 50% domestic travel
Required Skills & Qualifications:
General
* 0-3 years in an HSE manager position
* 0-3 years in the role of HSE trainer for the Industrial Construction industry
* Professional knowledge of federal standards (OSHA 29 CFR 1910 / 29 CFR 1926, EPA, DOT) for Industrial Construction and Operations environments
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
* Associate degree in Occupational Safety and Health
* OSHA 500
