Eicoff company history timeline
Alvin Eicoff, the father of DRTV advertising, founded the company in 1959.
He started A. Eicoff & Company in 1965 in Chicago.
''The worse the show, the better the return,'' he said in the 1970 interview, explaining that viewers rarely leave programs they are enjoying to make a phone call.
In 1977, AT&T approached A. Eicoff & Company to use 1–800 numbers in its commercials.
He served as president of Eicoff & Co. until the firm was purchased by Ogilvy & Mather in 1981.
In 1981, Eicoff client Time-Life became the first national direct-response advertiser in cable history.
In January 1982, Ron Bliwas took over as the company's president and CEO. Later that year, Ogilvy & Mather (now the Ogilvy Group) acquired the company and marked a switch in the agency's focus.
Eicoff, who was also hired as a consultant by AT&T in the development of the 800 number, was cited by Advertising Age magazine in 1995 as one of the 50 most influential advertising figures in television history.
However, in 2019, one of it's longest-tenured clients, Jelmar, ended their 51 year relationship and decided to partner with the Pittsburgh-based Marc USA.
In 2022, Eicoff helped Ogilvy run it's Super Bowl commercials by handling media buys.
