A typical day as an Income/Franchise Tax Senior Associate might include the following: * Research, review, and prepare deliverables concerning state and local income/franchise tax matters. * Assist clients with various state income tax compliance matters including return review. * Assist clients with state and local tax controversies including preparing clients for discussions with auditors, assisting with the representation of clients at administrative appeals, appeal meetings and preparing written protests. * Assist with the negotiation and drafting of settlement terms and ruling requests with state and local taxing authorities. * Assist with the identification and presentation of multistate tax opportunities to internal and external clients. * Manage voluntary disclosure projects. * Assist with buy and sell-side transaction advisory projects. * Develop multistate expertise by keeping current with latest legislation and case law related to state income/franchise tax. * Assist with the preparation of thought leadership insights and articles for both internal and external distribution * Participate in practice development activities focused on forming strong relationships with clients, prospective clients and governmental personnel. * Secondary assistance with non-income franchise service areas such as sales and use tax, credits and incentives, and property tax Who You Are * You have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or in a related field; a Master's of Taxation, MBA, LLM in Taxation or JD are preferred. * You have 2+ years of experience with state and local income/franchise tax compliance and/or consulting (required). * You have a valid CPA license or JD, or are working towards obtaining a CPA license or JD. * You have a well-rounded knowledge of state and local tax principles and experience with tax research and state income tax returns. * You have strong written and verbal communication skills. * You have the ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities with work projects. * You have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and clients. * You are proficient with Microsoft Office Excel and Word.
