Division:Eskenazi Health Sub-Division: Hospital Schedule: Full Time Shift: Days Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.
Overview of the Health Connections Team:
When faced with a health care situation or looking to establish care, many people don't know where to start. Eskenazi Health Connections can help by facilitating patient/client needs such as: establishing a new patient/client well or healthcare appointments, scheduling return care appointments, and other patient/client related requests.
Where Do I Fit In?
Eskenazi Health Connections supports to link patients/clients who call for primary and specialty care services, including scheduling appointments, medication refill inquiries and assistance with managing acute and chronic health conditions. This requires each Connections PSA/Referral Coordinator to maintain positive customer interaction, as the coordinator answers incoming patient/client telephone calls regarding Eskenazi Health services.
What Does Training Look Like?
We have dedicated trainers who will assist with learning the role! We have a comprehensive training for the first 3 weeks, 8:00am-4:30pm; Mon-Fri. During this timeframe new team members will be introduced to the department, systems and policies in place, role definitions and metrics as it pertains to individual productivity. Continued support is provided by both trainers, and seasoned staff who support in the PSA/Referral Coordinators II role.
Schedule:
We are open 24/7, therefore we have a variety of 8-hour shifts that could be available - day shift will start at 7:30am, 8:00am, 8:30am, or 9am, a mid-shift 11:00am-7:30pm, evening shift which is 3:00pm-11:30pm and, night shift for seasoned staff from 11:00pm-7:30am. The scheduled days are either Mon-Fri or four set days during the week and every other weekend.
* We also have PRN opportunities to assist with coverage for times we experience higher call volumes. There is a requirement to be available at least one weekend day, per pay period*

* Responds and acts quickly, giving attention to detail; escalates delays in resolving patient concerns
* Answers patient telephone inquiries regarding Eskenazi Health, Specialty Clinics and Ambulatory Care
* Obtains and verifies medical record number for existing callers; obtains and provides number for new callers; refers all inquiries to the appropriate areas of services
* Documents all inquiries for medical, legal, and statistical purposes
* Informs Connections nurse of callers with emergent symptoms for triage and serves as clinic liaison to assigned clinics
* Informs patient and/or family of the patient obligation policy, directing patient to financial counselors when patient has no coverage for ordered procedure or visits

Gateway Rehab Center (GRC) has an opportunity for a Part-time Scheduling Specialist who is caring, compassionate and displays excellent customer service to individuals who are calling GRC seeking admission to treatment. This is a system level position, with significant strategic relevance, requiring constant interface across referring facilities and providers within a 150-mile radius including those within Premier.
General Summary/Responsibilities:
Answers calls into the Regional Referral Center to provide a point of entry into Premier Health.
Responsible for meeting department benchmarks related to call handling and transferring
Provide and assist physicians with emergent and non-emergent transfers, consults, and other calls received.
Efficiently and accurately transcribe and enter interactions of all calls.

Job Summary:

Night Shift: 7pm-7:00am. The schedule will most likely be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday each week.
Must be able to train for 7-8 weeks on day and/or night hours, and training days could vary.
Education and Experience:
· A degree, diploma, or certificate in the clinical health care field or related area preferred (EMT-B, EMT-P, LPN).
· Minimum 1-2 years of experience in the clinical health care field required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Proficient computer skills and working knowledge of basic equipment, e.g., printer, scanner, copier, and electronic communication devices simultaneously.

Enters patient scheduling information into computer, updates patient demographic and insurance information and provides pre-registration forms which include testing information for registering the patient prior to testing.
Used as a resource in resolving testing/ procedures discrepancies and is used as a resource in finding solutions to problems with patient testing and scheduling. Obtains approval from department designed contract and/or supervisor for non-routine appointment scheduling.
Checks for medical necessity for patients at time of scheduling.
Works with departments to schedule stat patients. Coordinates scheduling with multiple facilities or departments to ensure outpatients are scheduled as soon as possible.
Compiles and prepares statistical data as requested.
Responsible for performing all other duties, such as filing, photocopying, and relaying data as assigned.

**Essential Functions:**
+ Gathers and interprets relatively complex patient data from physician offices and/or patient daily to enable scheduling of testing, surgical procedures, and pre-certification when required. May be responsible for pre-registration of self-scheduled patients.
+ Provides physician office staff and/or patient with hospital approved instructions regarding test preparation. Answers questions pertaining to testing, scheduling, and testing preparation. Refers patient to specialty area staff instructions, which are outside of the ordinary.
+ Enters patient scheduling information into computer, updates patient demographic and insurance information and provides pre-registration forms which include testing information for registering the patient prior to testing.
+ Used as a resource in resolving testing/ procedures discrepancies and is used as a resource in finding solutions to problems with patient testing and scheduling. Obtains approval from department designed contract and/or supervisor for non-routine appointment scheduling.
+ Checks for medical necessity for patients at time of scheduling.
+ Works with departments to schedule stat patients. Coordinates scheduling with multiple facilities or departments to ensure outpatients are scheduled as soon as possible.
+ Compiles and prepares statistical data as requested.
+ Responsible for performing all other duties, such as filing, photocopying, and relaying data as assigned.
+ Promotes strong customer focus and handles all calls with professionalism.

Position Overview

Qualifications
Required:
Previous Authorization experience
At least two years of experience in a healthcare setting performing related tasks
Familiarity with healthcare insurance processes
Preferred:
Associate degree in healthcare or business administration and/or related coursework
Successful completion of courses in medical terminology and human anatomy
Experience with EPIC information systems
