JOB DETAILS: Days, Part Time PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Consistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Joseph Medical Center. Follows the St. Joseph Medical Center Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI). Promotes a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, proper reporting, documentation and prevention of medical errors in a non-punitive environment. Provides technical, scientific, and management oversight for POCT performed throughout the hospital to meet or exceed accreditation standards. This includes establishing test system performance characteristics, ensuring all areas are performing the testing accurately and according to guidelines, reviewing QC sheets, resolving technical problems and ensuring that remedial/corrective actions are taken, and evaluates and selects test methods and quality control. Ensures that the test systems are properly functioning, maintains, troubleshoots and takes corrective action with equipment as needed. Works with nursing, physicians, associates, and management as needed to ensure POCT is run efficiently and effectively. Communicates liaisons, instructs and dialogs appropriately with health care providers, patients, and vendors on issues such as test interpretation, recommendations for alternate testing, instrumentation, and problems with specimens/methodology. Maintains and monitors a comprehensive quality control, quality assurance and as needed proficiency testing programs. Participates in PI activities such as reviewing QA reports and taking corrective actions by working with the appropriate department. This may also include also customer satisfaction assessment, chairing/participating in PI teams, giving input management to resolve/improve issues, etc. Assists the Director with the basic management functions of the department such as personnel issues, monitoring work time, providing input on performance appraisals of staff level personnel under the senior technologist's clinical guidance.     The Nurse Technician, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) delivers high-quality, patient-centered and family-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to nursing functions and activities of daily living. The Nurse Technician assists the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the Nurse Technician skills/training and the needs of the assigned department/unit. The Nurse Technician consistently assists the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe environment of care. The Nurse Technician is currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing and can perform basic care procedures once competency is achieved. Required Skills Skills * Possesses effective oral and written communication skills. * Possesses effective interpersonal relationship skills. * Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and * safety precautions. * Technically competent in tasks within the scope of practice of a Nurse Technician.
