The Times first published April 2, 1881.
Milestones: When Marcellus Washington Carrico produced the first edition of the El Paso Times in 1881, El Paso was a frontier town of adobe buildings and 800 residents.

The paper was founded in 1881 by Marcellus Washington Carrico.
Railroad service was the key to regional commercial and agricultural development at the time, and by 1890 El Paso had been transformed into a bustling frontier community of more than 10,000 people.
In 1910, Mills started work with architect Henry C. Trost, of the Trost and Trost firm, on the Anson Mills Building, which still stands at the intersection of West Mills and North Oregon streets (303 N Oregon) in El Paso.
Gannett bought the Times in 1972.
In July 1997 the newspaper opened a new production and press facility.
In 2003, Gannett and MediaNews Group formed a partnership between the Times and MediaNews' New Mexico papers, with Gannett as the managing partner.
In December 2005, Gannett became a minority partner in the El Paso Times, handing the majority of the partnership and management to Denver-based MediaNews Group.
In 2015, Gannett acquired full ownership of the Texas-New Mexico Newspapers Partnership from MediaNews successor Digital First Media.
Zahira Torres became the editor of the paper in 2017, making her the second woman and first Latina to lead the El Paso Times.
The cost of the building was reported as over $300,000, which is 8.3 million dollars in 2020 dollars.
