Positions available for Electrical Designers/Sr Designers with the ability to produce deliverables to support the development of products from design sketches, layouts and/or concepts, manufacture, assembly and test. Department 456, Electrical Design, is dedicated to providing a high quality overall design for equipment located throughout the ship for their customers by serving as the center of excellence for the overall design of numerous classes of submarines and special programs while fulfilling the Electric Boat and customer requirements & expectations. We ensure the location of equipment will meet all technical, operational, maintenance, sustainability, human engineering design, and safety requirements. Additionally, we create future submarine concepts, locate stowage and lockers for on board repair parts and items need for the sailors to complete their missions, locate lights, provide illumination studies, create flow paths and removal studies, performing roles as system integrators for several classes of submarines and special projects. The CAD programs Electrical Design uses today are CATIA, NX Team Center, and AUTO CAD. These programs allows us to provide downstream data to the shipyard for the production of the world's finest submarines. The surgical robot we design is key to enabling this, and the Robot Electrical Engineering Team supports this by designing, testing, and integrating all electrical aspects of our robot, encompassing a diverse range of fundamental electrical engineering domains while also working closely with the optical, mechanical, and software engineering teams. Job Description and Responsibilities: As an Electrical Engineering Intern you'll own meaningful projects and make substantial contributions as an integral member of our fast-moving team. You will be expected to design, verify, and oversee the transition to production of a variety of custom electronics systems while additionally supporting broader team efforts through debugging, manufacturing, testing, and more. Specific responsibilities and projects may include: All phases of board design (part selection, schematic design, layout, and bring-up) Custom motor drivers, from transistor selection to control loop design Custom high-bandwidth, low-latency, camera hardware and firmware Custom FPGA based Optical Coherence Tomography data acquisition systems Testing hardware such as Hardware-In-The-Loop systems, validation boards, and life-cycle testing rigs Case studies on future system architectures including new compute platforms, redesigned actuator layouts, and deep-brain imaging systems Required Qualifications: Demonstrable experience developing circuits or products that have been used by real customers. Student design team work and personal projects may apply Circuit board design experience demonstrating advanced knowledge in at least one niche, for example high density (HDI), high speed digital, high power, radio frequency, atypical materials or constructions, etc. Experience with sensors, power management, and signal/power integrity Design experience with common communication protocols (SPI, UART, I2C, etc.) Competent with common lab equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.) Preferred Qualifications: A portfolio showing examples of projects you've completed. Demonstrable experience in developing electronics for critical systems in fields such as medical devices, aerospace, automotive, or military. The Role The Hardware Engineer will design computer vision-based sensors, working closely with our firmware team to verify products to meet specifications. What You'll Do - Design board-level circuits - schematic capture and layout design- Work with firmware engineers to debug/test hardware - Performance characterization, data analysis, and report writing - Investigate, study, and implement new components - Troubleshoot field returns - Assemble and debug prototypes.- Work closely with our development partners (JDM)- Develop hardware test plans What You'll Need - Electrical Engineering Degree (or equivalent)- 1-3 years' experience in PCB-level hardware development- Familiarity with schematic capture and PCB layout tools- Experience with EE test equipment: o-scopes, function generators, power supplies, etc.- Hands-on experience with PCB bring-up and troubleshooting involving microcontrollers- Python programming for data analysis and data collection automation- Ability to work cross‐functionally- Strong interpersonal and communication skills- Results and deadline-driven- Able to work independently with little direction and multitask- Consummate team player- Takes great pride and ownership in designs Nice to Have- Master's degree- Experience writing firmware and using associated tools- Experience making RF measurements$100,000 - $144,000 a year Final salary will be based on the candidate's geographic location, in alignment with VergeSense's Compensation Philosophy.
