REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF MAINTENANCE
JOB PURPOSE: To effectively perform skilled manual work in maintaining and upgrading the Electrical and HVAC systems and refrigeration systems within the district.
Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
1. Maintain, modify, trouble shoot and repair existing installed Electrical and HVAC systems, including but not limited to Siemens systems and their components and various refrigeration systems.
2. Maintain, modify and repair High voltage Electrical systems including load centers, switchgear, motors and motor controls.
3. Maintain, modify and repair low voltage systems including building fire alarm systems, building security systems, building CCTV systems, and building clock and intercom systems.
4. Is available for emergency call-outs in the school district.
5. Perform interior and exterior building maintenance which would include, in addition to Electrical and HVAC needs, basic carpentry, and plumbing.
6. Operates light to moderately heavy vehicles and equipment.
7. Makes estimates of material and repair parts requirements.
8. Keeps records of out time and material required to complete assignments.
9. Establishes logs and maintains records on maintenance checks and work completed.
10. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work.
11. Be available to engage in all jobs as may be necessary.
12. Performs heavy manual labor for extended periods. If necessary, work under undesirable weather conditions.
13. Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
1. High School Diploma with four years experience as a Maintenance Electrician and/or HVAC Engineer.
2. Two years apprenticeship training as a Maintenance Electrician and/or HVAC Engineer. Training may be substituted with two years work as a maintenance electrician.
3. Demonstrated ability to read and follow electrical drawings, pneumatic drawings, blueprints and understand schematic symbols and perform troubleshooting when and where necessary.
4. Must have an understanding of High and Low Voltage building Electrical systems including load centers, switch gear, motors, fire alarm, security, CCTV, and clock and intercom systems.
5. Must have an understanding of and the demonstrated ability to operate, calibrate and repair controls and transmitters for heating, cooling, air-conditioning, ventilation and humidification, electric and electronic control systems, Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems and refrigeration systems.
6. Demonstrated ability to operate multimeters, sling psychrometers, and various other test equipment.
7. Demonstrated ability to operate Direct Digital Controls in the IBM environment.
8. Demonstrated ability to maintain and exhibit a positive attitude in relation to Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District and co-workers.
9. Ability to perform tasks in a neat and workman-like manner with the initiative, willingness and potential to continue to upgrade personal maintenance skills which might involve your own personal time.
10. Must possess a strong mechanical background.

Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of 10 to 15 years + of training and/or experience with Electrical Technician journeyman license in the construction, operation or maintenance of Electrical, Electronic, fire alarm systems or related industrial trades.
CT2- Electrical Technician journeyman level with 10 years of experience. Candidates who qualify for an interview will complete a CT2 competency test.
CT3- Electrical Technician master journeyman level with 15 years of experience. Candidates who qualify for an interview will complete a CT3 competency test.
A valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required for all positions.
Position Details:
This position is located on the UAA Main campus in Anchorage. This position is full-time, forty-hour work week, with overtime as required. UAA has flexible work programs available to eligible employees who have successfully completed the probationary period. These programs are subject to University business needs and compliance with active labor union contracts. Typical work hours are 7am to 3:30pm Monday through Friday.
