    Virgin Galactic is seeking a 3-month Contract Facilities Maintenance Electrician (FME) to actively participate in a team environment to meet the department and plant goals and objectives in Mesa Arizona. The FME will be responsible for assembling, install, test and maintenance of electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus and fixtures using hand and power tools. Diagnosing malfunctioning systems, apparatus and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. The FME will assist as directed with more complex maintenance and repairs of Virgin Galactic's facilities and equipment. The FME will also perform basic carpentry, plumbing, HVAC or associated work on Virgin Galactic facilities using hand and power tools as directed and will troubleshoot equipment or facilities problems and report to the Facilities Manager. Responsibilities Test Electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters and oscilloscopes to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations. Inspect electrical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes. Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous. Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers or other components. Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes. Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and ensure conformance to building and safety codes. Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps. Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors. Perform business organization duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment. Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. Work from ladders, lifts, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes. Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications. Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects. Work in partnership with the Facilities Manager to provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services. Follow preventive maintenance procedures on all plant equipment in a timely and thorough manner, logging all activities routinely in the facility maintenance system. Respond immediately to emergency situations (fire, evacuation, power and equipment failure, etc.). Provide assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights and generators and driving needed vehicles. Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agencies and company directives as related to building operations and practicing safe work habits. Performs other duties and responsibilities pertaining to the facilities team as required, always looking for teamwork and safety in mind. Examples may include painting, furniture installation, filter changes and other technical activities in line with the expectations of a facilities team member. Required Skills and Experience 5+ years of related work experience. Certified general electrician Ability to accurately follow operation manuals, manufacturing and installation instructions, sketches, blueprints and diagrams. Good written / verbal communication skills. Excellent attention to detail. Able to successfully keep multiple tasks running simultaneously. Carpentry, HVAC and plumbing preferred. Ability to lift upwards of 50 lbs. Must be able to work at heights of 20 feet or more. Good interpersonal skills. Basic computer skills strongly desired Strong team player oriented Able to provide and receive constructive feedback and creative solutions to problems. Responsible, flexible and fast learner. Job Duties: - Supervises and teaches new electrical skills/safety training for inmate worker - Performs preventative maintenance on back-up generators - Repair/replace electrical components based on the interpretation and understanding of blueprints, sketches, schematics, and drawings utilizing specialized tools of trade - Performs repairs and service for all electrical systems and/or appliances, including ensuring all electrically controlled gates/doors are in proper working condition - Maintains and ensures that all security lights, as well as non-security area light fixtures, are in working order - Repair wastewater equipment when applicable - Inspect all electrical panels and ensure they are in proper working condition - Exercise and test all emergency transfer switches - Track work orders and purchase requests for electrical components - Get estimates on material costs - Drives on State business - Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of: - Methods and practices of electrical remodeling, constructing, installing, and replacing major utility services - Reading and understanding blueprints, sketches, and schematics relating to building and utilities - Applying and understanding national and local building codes and common safety practices - Commercial electrical system 227v, 480v, and above - Using common and specialized tools, equipment, and materials - Ordering and estimating materials and costs - Using Microsoft Office to generate reports and charts - Basic computer skills Skill in: - Repairing, replacing, or modifying existing services to update or conform with new requirements - Performing preventive maintenance by inspecting, cleaning, adjusting or replacing motors, generators, batteries, clocks, pumps, belts, public address systems, etc. - Reading and interpreting schematics to determine standards or procedures to follow in repairing or installing electrical wiring, fixtures, and appliances - Installing conduit, wiring, outlets, fixtures, switches, circuit boards, and services for the increased electrical power needs in state buildings - Testing electrical apparatuses with various meters to detect short, worn out, or weak components and defective connections - Operating articulating boom lift equipment for the repair of any pole lights - Written and verbal communication - Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships Ability to: - Lift/Carry 70lbs - Push/Pull 80lbs - Walk/Run 0.25 miles - Work in a prison environment - Supervise inmate work crews on electrical repairs Selective Preference(s): - Four (4) or more years of experience in the commercial electrical industry - Minimum two (2) years of hands-on training working with a licensed contractor and a combination of training and experience that meets the knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted - One (1) year of journey-level electrical experience Pre-Employment Requirements: Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination.
