Under general supervision of the Supervising Electrician and working independently or as a team member, the Electrician performs the full range of skilled journey-level electrical work at San José State University. This includes the installation, maintenance, modification, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and apparatuses across the campus. The incumbent inspects, isolates, troubleshoots, and repairs malfunctions; plans layouts and wiring for new or remodeled installations; and ensures compliance with applicable codes and safety regulations. Additionally, the Electrician operates and maintains low-voltage systems, including fire alarms and access control systems, and utilizes a computerized maintenance management system for scheduling and documenting preventive maintenance. The Electrician also trains and provides direction to semi-skilled or unskilled workers and plays a key role in ensuring safe, reliable electrical services within the university's complex infrastructure comprising over 150 acres and 81 buildings.
Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
Assemble, install, and test motor control devices, switch panels, transformers, generator windings, solenoids, and other electrical equipment and components.
Modify electrical prototypes to correct functional deviations under direction of Electrical Manager.
Install power supply and control wiring for newly installed machines and equipment such as conveyors and programmable controllers.
Install wiring and electrical components in specific electrical panels.
Connect power supply and control wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
Requirements:
Skilled in all phases of electrical installations, maintenance and troubleshooting of power distribution and motor control circuits.
One-year certificate from college or technical school; Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred; or, any combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
5 years' related industrial electrical experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably food processing.
Requires the ability to read, write and comprehend English fluently; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

About the Role:
U.S. Pipe is seeking a 1st shift Electrician to join our team. This position is responsible for inspecting, repairing, installing, and wiring all electrical apparatus, devices, and circuits, of any voltage in the plant or assigned area.
Specific Responsibilities:
* Receives wiring diagrams, specifications and instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repair, installation, and inspection work to be done.
* Analyzes all types of drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and install circuits and equipment to determine material or replacement needs and to select a logical approach to "trouble shooting" and repair problems.
* Plans details of working procedure to affect the most logical approach to the job.
* Considers all safety precautions and the proper isolation of circuits to cause a minimum of interference to operations.
* Determines necessary tools and equipment.
* Plans and performs work requiring a thorough working knowledge of electrical principles, wiring specification codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of equipment.
