Electrical drafter job description

A successful candidate will perform electrical physical and protection & controls drafting on various substation projects from 69kV up to 500kV, renewable & electrical distribution systems.

Responsibilities include:

• Following engineering markups to develop Substation layout drawings including, plan and elevations, yard layouts, grounding, grounding details, raceway, raceway details, control building layouts, cable lists, and material lists on new and existing substations.
• Following engineering markups to develop Substation one lines, three lines, Aux AC Power Systems, DC Power Systems, AC & DC Schematics, SCADA and Communications Systems, Relay Panel Layouts, Equipment Wiring, and Cable Schedules for new and existing substations.
• Work under mentorship/supervision of engineers to prepare equipment specifications, for substation equipment, components, and construction.

Minimum Qualifications

• Diploma in Electrical Technology.
• Three (3) to six (6) years of experience in substation drafting with combination of Physical Electrical and P&C.
• Strong knowledge of CAD standards.
• Ability to understand & follow client Standards.
• Commitment to driving strong business performance, continuous improvement, and best practices.
• Experience in AutoCAD & MicroStation.
• Experience in AutoCAD Electric will be considered as an asset.

Upon retrieval of design from the Sales Engineering team the Production Drafter will be responsible for drafting detailed plans for Specialty Vehicles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Develop vehicle specifications across a wide range of industries.
* Define component specifications for vehicle bodies, HVAC, lighting, and cabinetry.
* Work with purchasing and production to assist with material sourcing.
* Produce vehicle schematic in Solidworks Schematic ensuring all customer specifications are met.
* Draft detailed design schematics to support production team with low voltage, high voltage, 12-volt vehicle requirements.
* Create bills of material, maintain revision control, process engineering change orders.
* Resolve manufacturing shop floor questions and issues as required.
* Design for manufacturing and assembly.
* Support cost reduction effort through lean activities.
* Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

* Requires frequent sitting, standing, balancing, bending, or stooping for prolonged periods of time.
* Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Valid Driver's License and MVR in good standing.
* BSEE or equivalent experience
* MECP certification a plus
* 2 or more years of CAD experience preferred
* Design/Build experience in an automotive environment or related field
* Solidworks Schematics experience required
* Solidworks certifications a plus
* RVIA, RADCO, QVM experience a plus
* Bill of materials creation experience
* ERP Experience
* Cabinet-woodworking design and manufacturing
* Cost improvement project experience
* Automotive knowledge and/or experience a plus!
* Ability to successfully complete a General Abilities Assessment and pass post-offer background check, physical and drug screening.

**Your Opportunity**

As a Senior CAD Technician/ Technologist your role as a senior contributor on our professional consulting services team is to work on large water infrastructure projects of high complexity and as a leader of a team or project through all phases of a design project. You may be providing specialty technical guidance and mentoring to other technologists to provide innovation while maintaining standards and procedures. You will review engineering drawings and supporting documentation for details, accuracy and completeness.

The position will include work supporting business development and delivery of studies and proposals. You will review and prepare drawings and work directly with engineers to develop design detail drawings and quantities and supporting documents. You will also assist with advanced CAD/BIM technology development working with others and continuing Stantec's leadership with design.

**Your Key Responsibilities**

+ Leads process mechanical design teams on multiple projects.

+ Trains and/or mentors CAD staff and entry-level engineers in company procedures, CAD standards, and software.

+ Participates in CAD/BIM committee(s).

+ Uses knowledge of tools and drafting to complete assigned tasks including 2D and 3D model development, completing design changes, general arrangement drawing production, redlining, plotting, and drafting using CAD/BIM platforms noted below.

+ Works closely with engineers and senior designers on assigned projects and assist with design engineering.

+ Coordinates submittals for clients, governmental agencies, permitting agencies, etc. for reviews, approvals, and other milestones.

+ Performs thorough quality control (QA/QC) of models and sheet files for standards compliance, discipline coordination and ensures comments have been addressed by the responsible CAD Technician and others as required.

+ Performs thorough quality control (QA/QC) of construction documents and provides design ideas and solutions.

+ Performs complex design tasks on projects with understanding of process and instrumentation diagrams, codes, standards, and specifications.

+ Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

+ Proficient with Microsoft (MS) Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

+ Ability to work with pointclouds to model existing facilities and features.

+ Working knowledge of basic engineering calculations.

+ Experience with process mechanical systems, wet infrastructure, and structural design associated with water and wastewater treatment plants and collection and distribution systems.

+ Ability to coordinate and work with other disciplines.

+ Ability to translate process and instrumentation drawings into physical layouts.

+ Effective written and verbal communication skills.

+ Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.

**Education and Experience** Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 12-14 years of experience.

Typical office environment working with computers at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
