We are looking for a passionate Power Electronics Controls Engineer to help expand the Emporia Energy hardware ecosystem - initially by working on our upcoming Bidirectional EV Charger. Work will involve owning control loop design and verification for both AC/DC and DC/DC power converters and contributing to needed V2G, G2V, and V2H control designs. As a senior member of the Hardware Development team, the ideal candidate will be expected to work closely with and provide mentorship to peers and junior members of the team, as needed for this cross disciplinary project. Throughout, they will demonstrate the strong analysis, design, and test skills required to produce the reliable, low-cost hardware that our customers expect. Responsibilities Own the design and validation of the control loop for bidirectional AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion hardware, including units involving the interconnection of multiple converters acting together as a single product Act as a technical expert for bidirectional 10 kW+ level AC/DC and DC/DC control systems at all stages of design and verification; support other power related projects as needed Design controls code for high voltage and high power systems and validate its functionality and performance Work with our established firmware team to transition that code into production Develop prototype firmware to enable hardware bring up and testing Support the transition from new product development into high volume manufacturing including assisting with the development of production line testing methods Lead and/or participate in design reviews and trade studies as needed Collaborate with firmware, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing and other engineering teams Required Qualifications & Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field 10+ years experience developing complex products as a power electronics controls engineer, electrical engineer, or related role Strong understanding of power converter theory and design Experience developing digital control systems for grid tied inverters, rectifiers, and DC/DC converters using microcontroller platforms Working knowledge of V2G and G2V related regulations in North America as they relate to the design of grid interactive power converters Working knowledge of renewable energy related concepts such as home energy storage systems, general power conversion/regulation/distribution, and power fault protection Experience with modeling and simulation-aided analysis for control loop design in tools such as PLECS Familiarity with scripting language such as Python, Javascript, Visual Basic, or equivalent Familiarity with electrical hardware lab equipment Strong writing, interpersonal, and communication skills Desired Qualifications & Skills Master's degree or PhD in electrical engineering or related field Bidirectional inverter design experience for North American grid tied applications Experience writing embedded software for the STM32 family of microcontrollers Experience designing and debugging for electrical and safety compliance standards such as FCC, CE, UL/ETL, etc. Experience designing and shipping high-volume consumer products What We Offer 💰 Compensation: The expected base salary range is $140,000-$180,000, plus stock options, however the offered salary may be higher or lower than the above range depending on numerous factors including, but not limited to work experience, skills and internal equity considerations. Minimum of 4 years of experience designing analog and power electronics Experiencetesting single-phase and three-phase off-line AC-DC power supplies, and DC-DC power supplies for industrial, airborne, ormilitary systems Knowledge of control theory and stability of power electronics, including experience characterizing control loops and impedances in the laboratory Experience designing power filters for low noise outputs and for power line electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) Hands-on experience with testing and troubleshooting electronics and power converters using laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes, impedance analyzers, spectrum analyzers, electronic loads, and signal generators Experience with analysis and simulation tools such as SPICE, LTSPICE, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, PLECS, Simulink, MATLAB, MathCAD, ANSYS Q3D and SiWave, or HyperLynx Excellent written and verbal communication skills PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Experience designing high-reliability power supplies for automotive, industrial or defense applications Experience with power stage design and testing ofcommon DC-DC power converter topologies (e.g. discrete linear regulators, Buck, Boost, Buck-boost, Flyback) Experience with voltage mode control and peak current mode control modeling for DC-DC converters Experience generating statements of work and requirements for external vendors, vendor selection, and vendor management for power supply and power system rack developments Experience developing design verification test plans, requirement compliance matrices, system integration and qualification test plans, and production acceptance test plans Experience performing worst-case circuit analysis (WCA), stress analysis, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), and reliability analysis for power supplies Experience with electronics schematic capture and printed circuit board (PCB) layout tools such as Altium, OrCAD, Allegro or Xpedition Experience running board-level power integrity simulation using tools such as Ansys SiWave, or HyperLynx Programming skills to support hardware test and data processing (Python, MATLAB, etc.) CesiumAstro considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
