The Plant Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, specification, and maintenance of all of the plant Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage power distribution systems for our 24/7 Food Ingredients Manufacturing Operation. Key responsibilities: Senior Electrical Engineer Contribute to the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of the plant power distribution systems Serve as plant electrical safety advisor and expert Could manage area power and control resources, Develop the technical skills of others outside the electrical discipline Provide electrical technical specifications, standards, and guidelines Maintain plant electrical documentation Cooperatively work with engineering teams to plan, develop, support, and implement capital and sustaining projects to improve safety, reduce costs, improve quality, reduce environmental impacts and increase capacity. BS in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years' experience preferred. Will also consider Journeyman Electrician with 10+ years experience in a process industry manufacturing plant. Experience with 120V/480V/4160V/15kV power distribution design, installation, and maintenance Experience with Natural Gas Cogeneration Systems is a plus Knowledge of power distribution system protection including--but not limited to--short circuit and arc flash analysis, SKM modelling, and relay applications/programming Ability to understand and implement multiple layers of reliability and predictive maintenance testing including but not limited to transformer oil testing, infrared scans, partial discharge testing, and ultrasound monitoring. This is Heavy PLC programming, not mechanical work. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: PROJECT PLANNING ASSISTANCE Assist with project planning and program analysis phase for new construction and renovation projects to assist in the development of detailed technical scopes, and comments on the schedules and budgets. PROJECT DESIGN & DESIGN REVIEW Provide troubleshooting expertise for existing electrical, lighting, and fire alarm systems that are not functioning properly to identify problems, determine appropriate resolution, and provide recommended corrective work in project program analysis format with clear definition of scope and probable costs. Bachelor of Science in engineering with 3-5 years' experience as a hands-on controls engineer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Electrical engineering degree Project/Construction management experience preferred Previous experience in industrial or manufacturing sites preferred Prior experience completing projects on time and under budget Prior experience mentoring engineers preferred Ability to communicate in a high-pressure environment Experience troubleshooting practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists Working knowledge of control including, but not limited to: Proportional, integral, and derivative (PID) control Start/stop optimization Temperature resets Alarm/trip functionality Lead/lag and sequencing Proficiency with one of the following controls platforms (hardware and/or software): Ignition Delta Controls Alpha Controls Wago PLC's Proficiency in controls design Control device and instrumentation sizing and selection Submittal generation (AutoCAD, Visio) Bill of Material creation and parts ordering. Technical support would include but is not limited to troubleshooting, operational improvements, procedural improvements, and infrastructure improvements Develop high performance graphical interfaces Collaborate on specification development for capital facility equipment such as chillers, boilers, air handling and exhaust equipment, chemical systems, etc. Provide input into the development of sequence of operations (SOO) documents, functional control specifications, and P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) for utility systems. Develop and maintain internal documentation such as tag list, owner requirements, specifications, scope of work, etc.\ Develop scalable network, DDC/PLC, and server architectures Lead discussions with stakeholders on user experience (UX) and operating strategies Evaluate mean time between failure (MTTR) of selected instrumentation Review bill of material (BOMs) for required instrumentation (e.g., valves, dampers, actuators, sensors, flow monitoring, etc.) Ensure the designs conform to recognized building codes, providing details, analysis, and recommendations Perform other duties as needed
