Qualifications

Strong knowledge of NEC 690/705/706, UL 1741-SA, IEEE 1547.

Your mission
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Power Electronics Engineer to join our Propulsion team. You will lead the design and integration of the hybrid propulsion, including but not limited to the inverters, motors, HV cables, with batteries, and in parallel with Turbomachinery. You will interface across mechanical, thermal, electrical, and flight control systems to deliver a fully integrated and certifiable hybrid Electric Propulsion Unit (EPU).

This role is a Responsible Engineer (RE) who focuses on the integration of power electronics and high voltage electrical systems into our hybrid aircraft.
Full ownership over design, fabrication, commissioning, and certification of the hybrid propulsion system.
Lead and execute system-level tests, such as motor and propeller test stands.
Collaborate with suppliers to ensure delivery of integrated, certifiable subsystems.
Model the electrical and power electronics systems in to our high fidelity Digital Twin for optimization of our hybrid mission profile.
Perform topology selection trade studies.
You'll Bring These Qualifications:
5+ years of professional experience working with power electronics components.
Strong experience in high voltage power electronics design (+800V) including AC/DC inverters, and DC/DC converters.
Strong understanding of HV filter design, grounding analysis, coordination of protective devices.
Hands-on experience with integration of propulsion and/or powertrain test stands, including instrumentation, controls, and mechanical assembly.
Extensive experience with Altium/cadence/similar), circuit analysis (spice), gate driver design, and lab work (common tools like oscilloscopes, network analyzers)
Experience with C/C++, Python, Matlab/Simulink, or PLECS.
Strong knowledge of Avionics communication, ARINC, CAN, and Ethernet.
Strong understanding of Microcontrollers, Multicore processors, Firmware Development, and digital power conversion.
These Qualifications Would Be Nice to Have:
Understanding of certification requirements (EASA CS-23/25 or FAA FAR Part 23/25).
Knowledge of hardware design and airworthiness DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160.
Demonstrated leadership qualities through cross-functional teamwork on challenging problems.
Working knowledge of EMI/EMC, underlying physics and specifications, along with best practices for design, and strategies.
Hands on experience with Matlab/Simulink Auto Code Generation.
Education
Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on Power Electronics, or Power Systems.

Senior Power Electronics Engineer
The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design and development of the power electronics of our nuclear-driven high-speed generator. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the design of high-voltage and high-speed generator drives, DC-DC converters for high-voltage batteries, and standalone and grid-tied inverters. You'll join the Power Conversion and Electrical Systems team responsible for converting mechanical energy generated from a nuclear reactor to electrical energy to deliver to customers. You will own power electronics design, analysis, simulation, and component selection. You will partner cross-functionally with top industry engineers at Radiant, as well as vendors and partner organizations, including government agencies. Your efforts will be instrumental in bringing the first nuclear microreactor to market.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Design and develop power electronics for a nuclear power generator.
Build detailed schematics, select components, PCBA layout, prototype, and validate hardware.
Apply EMI/EMC strategies and underlying physics to engineering problems.
Utilize expertise in design and validation of gate drivers, power stages, magnetics, and controls.
Conduct modeling and detailed simulation of inverters.
Own the design and build a fully functioning inverter autonomously.
Perform circuit formal analysis, e.g., de-rating and worst-case circuit analysis.
Optimize loss, efficiency, and conduct thermal analysis of the inverter.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in power electronics.
8+ years of design experience designing high voltage and high power electronics.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
Expert with high voltage power semiconductor selection (Si/SiC/GaN, IGBT, Diodes, MOSFETs), gate driver, and protection circuit design.
Strong understanding of different PWM switching techniques, DPWM, ZCS, ZVS.
Expert with at least one of the common power electronics tools such as PLECS, PSCAD, dSPICE, PSIM, or Simplorer.
Solid understanding of capacitor and super-capacitor design and selection, such as electrolytic, film, ceramic, and tantalum.
Proficiency in EMI/EMC filter design for stability, noise rejection, and surviving threat signals.
Startup experience or ability to work in a fast-paced development environment.
Demonstrated experience in embedded programming with C/C++.
Additional Requirements
Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to accomplish our mission.
Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ.
