About The Position
The Engineer designs control and protection systems; determines protective relay and surge protection requirements; determines the specification of relay settings for the transmission, sub transmission and distribution systems.

This position is responsible for the development of electronics and instrumentation needed for nuclear physics and other physics group's research projects. They will collaborate with engineers, researchers, students, and faculty to solve highly complex technical problems to enable research in nuclear physics and other fields. The incumbent will train students in aspects of modern analog and digital electronics, and is expected to bring creativity and design capabilities to the tasks. Travel to offsite laboratories and research facilities, including international locations will be required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Design, construct, assemble, test, and operate electronics and apparatus to be used in physics research in consultation with faculty and in coordination with research and engineering staff at the University of Illinois and at other research facilities and national laboratories. Not limited to the following, this activity will include:
* Engineering design, procurement, assembly, testing and integration of electronic devices and scientific apparatus used in research labs at UIUC and/or at collaborating external institution (eg. LANL or CERN) for physics research.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
