Summary/Objective
The Austin Company performs design-build work for industrial and specialized commercial markets. The Electrical Intern actively works with in-house engineers, architects, and construction departments to assist with ongoing functions. Additionally, each intern participates in an interactive intern-specific project requiring coordination amongst the various engineering and architectural design disciplines. Throughout the summer, the interns choose a project, decide a site location, and bring their project idea to life with engineering design and collaboration efforts. Finally, a proposal and presentation are assembled, in which the interns pitch their design proposal to the architectural, engineering, construction and marketing professionals in the office. By the end of the summer internship, students gain an understanding for the project cycle.
Essential Functions

Utilization of Revit, Revizto, Visual Lighting, Bluebeam and Procore to aid in project support.
Assists in electrical equipment and device selection and layout, life safety equipment selection and layout, and develops equipment schedules.
Performs calculations for specific tasks defined by a discipline mentor.
Provides Revit design drawings of sketches prepared by other team members.
Participates in departmental and design review meetings.
With the assistance of discipline mentor, reads and understands drawings and specifications.
For the Intern Project, The Electrical Intern duties are:
Coordinates with other construction, architectural and engineering disciplines.
Selects appropriate power distribution equipment for the project.
Selects appropriate lighting for the project.
Provides load, voltage drop, conduit fill and photometric calculations; design and layout for power distribution equipment and lighting.
Creates Revit drawings, including one-line diagram, area plans, equipment details.
Circuits equipment in Revit to create panel schedules.
Conducts quantity take-offs and compiles an estimate of all related electrical components in the project.
Aids with the project proposal and presents final design to architectural, engineering, construction and marketing professionals in the office.
Required Education and Experience
Actively enrolled in a 4 or 5-year degree program in Engineering.

Responsibilities: As an ElectricalEngineer at a Marathon refinery, you can expect to become familiar with industry codes and best practices, build critical thinking skills, and gain an understanding of how all engineering disciplines work together as a cohesive team. You will also gain knowledge of various aspects of a refinery by working with a team of professionals who run a specific portion of the refining process. Most often, ElectricalEngineers will have an opportunity to work on more than one area of the refinery, leading to a broad understanding of how the plant operates. Finally, you will have the opportunity to expand your written and verbal presentation skills in a professional work environment.
The majority of ElectricalEngineering co-ops and interns enter into the following positions:
Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Project Engineers work on a variety of real-world electrical and instrumentation projects in a refinery setting. During your time at MPC, you will develop and utilize project management skills including scope alignment, cost and schedule development, and teamwork through multiple engineering phases. You will also support the area teams. We are committed to developing engineers into professional project managers who successfully manage projects of all sizes.
Reliability Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineers troubleshoot Electrical & Instrumentation issues at the refinery. As a reliability intern, you will help analyze failures of equipment, develop solutions for recurring equipment difficulties, submit Project Request Forms (PRF's) to implement solutions, and understand equipment maintenance strategies. There will be opportunities to use electrical analysis software to solve coordination issues and run Arc Flash studies for the power system, as well as learning and understanding about how our critical Refinery Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) are applied.
Process Control / Technical Service Engineers can work on a wide array of projects in support of the process control systems installed throughout the refinery and products movements areas. The process control systems in the refinery provide real-time control and data acquisition functions in support of operating the refinery process and electrical equipment. Typical college co-op assignments include the following: troubleshooting system power supply problems, control system programming, hardware and software lifecycle replacement projects, installing and troubleshooting communication networks and monitoring control system performance metrics.

As an ElectricalEngineering Intern based at Rocket Lab's site in Long Beach, California, you will have the opportunity to support the Avionics Design team testing simulations and electrical hardware design of modules that power and run our spacecrafts. Rivian is looking for a motivated and talented Motor Electromagnetic Design Intern to support the development of next-generation electric traction motors for our adventure-focused vehicles. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the efficiency and performance of the electric powertrain, improving acceleration, range, and overall reliability for the final product. The ideal candidate will use their skills in simulation and design to help optimize the core technology that drives Rivian forward. Responsibilities Motor parametric modeling using FEA simulation software: The intern is responsible for developing new motor designs or improving existing ones using advanced electromagnetic simulation and modeling software like ANSYS Maxwell, MotorCAD, or JMAG. This involves parametric modeling and running simulations to optimize motor efficiency, performance, torque, and reliability based on system requirements. Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams: work closely with a variety of other engineers, including mechanical, thermal, motor control, and manufacturing specialists. This ensures that the motor design integrates seamlessly with the overall system, considering factors like thermal management, mechanical constraints, and manufacturing feasibility. Technical Documentation and Manufacturing Support: Preparing detailed technical documentation, including schematics, drawings, design specifications, and design reports, is a critical duty. You may also provide direct technical support to manufacturing and production teams to aid assembly, quality control, and troubleshooting activities. Correlation and Data Analysis: The role involves supporting the testing of motor prototypes and develop procedures to validate the designs. The intern will analyzes the collected test data to verify performance against simulation data, troubleshoots any issues, and iterates on the design as necessary. Benchmarking: An intern working on the benchmarking of competitor traction motors will primarily support engineers in gathering and analyzing technical performance data from competitor products. Their core tasks involve collecting information from sources like market research reports and technical documentation, using data analysis tools to compare key metrics (e.g., efficiency, power density, cost) against internal products, and helping to identify performance gaps or areas for improvement. Qualifications Must be currently pursuing a PhD degree at an accredited university Actively pursuing a degree or one closely related in ElectricalEngineering. Core Technical Knowledge: A solid understanding of electricalengineering is essential, including core subjects like circuit theory, electromagnetics, and control systems. Coursework related specifically to electric machines, finite element analysis, power systems design, and power electronics is preferred. Software Skills: Proficiency with industry-standard software and tools is a key requirement. This often includes experience with software like MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS Maxwell, Jmag, CAD tools. Hands-on and Lab Skills: The ability to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting is crucial. This includes hands-on experience using basic lab equipment like oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and signal generators, as well as strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues. Other Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for collaborating within cross-functional teams (e.g., with mechanical or software engineers). Ability to work 40 or more hours per week. Pay Disclosure The salary range for this role is $26.00-45.00/HR for Irvine based applicants.
