ROLE DESCRIPTION
This is a full-time on-site role for a Mechanical/Electrical Design Engineer at VMI, Inc. located in Cushing, OK. The Engineer will be responsible for managing projects and tasks related to dredging equipment design and development from conceptualization through project completion as well as revisions and updates to existing products. The engineer will be responsible for creating computer-aided design (CAD) drawings, schematics, technical documentation, and programming. The Engineer will assist with troubleshooting and customer support as needed. The Engineer will also perform other duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Project management.
Design heavy marine related equipment. This includes all aspects of machine design including structural, hydraulic, and electrical.
Update and review current product designs and recommend revisions that minimize costs and enhance product performance.
During the design of new products, review current and past product designs, determine manufacturing methods and recommend modifications to improve manufacturability through fabrication and assembly.
Evaluate costs of new parts and products to establish best suited components.
Establish hose and wire routings for assembly.
Through behavior and communication, maintain positive relationships with customers, clients, supervisors, and co-workers.
Meet or exceed typical expectations for engineering competence, productivity, creativity, and safety.
Simultaneously work on multiple projects as needed.
Conduct FEA and/or CFD analysis as determined necessary.
Work with suppliers and validate products to meet requirements.
Create and update specifications for equipment.
Create part, assembly, and technical drawings along with bills of materials.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors of Engineering degree in mechanical, agricultural, electrical, industrial, marine, or related field.
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of heavy equipment and/or marine equipment.
Knowledge or experience with equipment design and drafting using Solid Modeling/CAD.
Have a good work record, strong self-motivation, high productivity, reliable attendance, strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to learn new skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Office environment most of the time.
Plant environment some of the time. The shop environment includes: variable temperature and humidity, noise, and dirt.
Physical hazards such as sharp objects, moving machinery, welding and other electrical equipment.
Hazardous materials such as fuels, oils, grease, paint, solvents, coolant, pressurized gases, caustics, cleaners, and metals.
Occasional outdoor work may be required.

Job Purpose
The Electrical Test Engineer will be responsible for component testing and validation of cutting-edge electric vehicle drive units. This individual will focus on drive unit test execution for electric powertrains, with a strong focus on electric motors for on next-generation electric vehicle developments. Responsible for creating, maintaining, and executing DVP/PVP test plans. Create and correlate test procedures and test result reports. Collaborate with a talented team of design, CAE, and system engineers to create a highly integrated drive unit assembly with electric traction motor, geartrain, cooling, and power electronics. The position oversees the testing of components and must have familiarity with current eDrive systems to maintain a level of competitiveness in target setting.
Responsibilities (80s of the Position)
Validate electric motor performance and efficiency through the use of dynamometers equipped with power analyzers
Support motor analysis and inverter calibration by specifying and conducting motor tests
Validate, execute, and verify test plans and test results
Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot test cell equipment and instrumentation
Interact with test requestors, technicians, and schedule validation timelines according to development timelines
Provide guidance to technicians and technical associates and verify all work and data output
Build and expand internal testing and calibration capability
Utilize and support external vendors and contractors as needed
Support the definition of test conditions, pass/fail criteria for sub-systems, and completed system.
Correlate life testing to life predictions, refining analysis/models, and collaborate with CAE engineers.
Post-process test results, identify root-cause of potential issues, and make design recommendations to meet the highest level of durability, efficiency, and performance for Canoo vehicles.
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
7+ years of Automotive powertrain development and validation experience, including rotating electric machine, NVH, and power electronic disciplines.
First-hand experience in the development and validation of electric drive unit components and assemblies from prototype into production scenarios.
Experience with motor and vehicle test equipment such as dynamometers and data acquisition hardware and software
Experience of Test-Simulation correlation in the component/sub-system/models.
Prepared test articles, collaborating with testing resources to complete DVP&R activities.
Strong communication skills and experience with presenting results and recommendations to multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Experience

Electrical engineer internship job in Oklahoma City, OK
Primary responsibility is to support the execution of new generation projects. Roles include the following:
Acts as New Generation Projects staff technical leader and main interface with the Owners Engineers reviewing project documentation and integration.
Guide, lead, and advise project managers on complex topics and distill for their understanding and possible impacts.
Proficient and effective in technical specifications. Understand the scope of the project and how the systems/processes interact.
Enforces and interfaces with design engineering to apply and interpret design intent with regards to the technical specification compliance, operability, maintainability, and safety.
Be the technical leader and main interface with the Owners Engineers staff. Guide, lead, and advise project managers on complex topics and distill for their understanding and possible impacts.
Proficient and effective in technical specifications. Understand the scope of the project and how the systems interact with each other.
Assists the Contractors and Construction Coordinators in retrieving existing plant documentation to perform their design and installation activities.
Performs/coordinates engineering inspections of new equipment and material.
Performs/coordinates engineering inspections of contractor installed systems and equipment for compliance to manufacturer requirements, technical specifications, and industry standards.
Coordinates the Contractors engineering requested walk downs and various technical inspections.
Participates in system walkdowns and punch-list generation.
Develops plans and specifications, performs analysis, and provides reports on assigned tasks involving design and construction of new facilities or operation and maintenance of existing facilities. Technically involved in the resolution of equipment and operational problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, performing design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.
Level of responsibility
Responsibilities are varied and complex. Often works outside area of assigned duties. Applies advanced skills in multiple areas. Resolves complex issues which impact business operations both inside and outside own department. Makes unreviewed decisions related to the area of responsibilities. Opinions carry significant weight in policy and strategy decisions.
Essential Functions
Provide a wide range of detailed guidance, instruction, and training to others to improve designs, systems, processes, procedures, schedules, and costs.
Effectively prioritize and manage conflict to provide solutions to issues that maximize synergies with an overriding goal to do the "right thing" for the company. Take timely independent action, make recommendations, and assist management in the resolution of elevated issues.
Influences the Engineering and design, procurement, contracting, estimating, construction, and startup procedures and processes to optimize a project. Ensure project teams utilize the latest SOPs and SSOPs.
Creates and updates engineering standards, policies, guidelines and ensures procedures are in place for compliance with these policies.
May communicate with regulatory bodies and government agencies.
Acts as a resource for members with less experience, may direct the technical complexities of work.
Plans, prioritizes, conducts and leads assignments.
Serves as project or case manager in the development, facilitation, and implementation of metrics, processes and procedures.
Meets with general public and/or developers, landowners, and interest groups concerning zoning, subdivision projects, building projects, and engineering regulations, standards, or policies.
Provides technical presentations to elected officials, appointed boards/commissions, the public, and staff.
Core responsibilities focus on operational/tactical aspects of the organization and some strategic focus.
Leads lower level Engineers in project completion.
May act in a liaison capacity with other departments, divisions, and organizations.
Functions as quality inspector or defines quality requirements on engineering designs and projects.
Manages budgets, schedules, and resources for small to medium sized projects.
Reviews and critiques proposed changes to engineering standards, policies and guidelines.
Review development plans for compliance with adopted engineering standards and good engineering practices.
Conducts surveys to gather field data.
Prepare and interpret schematics, drawings, layouts and other visual aids.
Solves problems and develops solutions that call for original approach, based on thorough and comprehensive research and technical expertise.
REQUIREMENTS
Lead Engineer:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; And 6 years related Engineering experience (at least 4 years as an Engineer, and a maximum of 2 years "related experience" which may include non-Engineer experience such as Engineering Internship, Design, Drafting, and Engineering Tech experience. This type of experience will be counted at half rate.)
Valid State Drivers License.
Professional Engineer designation
Senior Engineer:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (or) a PE; And 5 years related Engineering experience (at least 3 years as an Engineer and a maximum of 2 years related experience which may include non-Engineer experience such as Engineering Internship, Design, Drafting, and Engineering Tech experience. This type of experience will be counted at half rate.)
Valid Driver's License
