Lauderdale, FL at NAVSEA's South Florida Ocean Measurement Facility (SFOMF). We are seeking an experienced Electronics Technician to join our government contracting team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex electronic systems used for remote ocean sensing and data acquisition. The Electronics Technician will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the reliability and accuracy of data gathered from these systems in support of critical government initiatives. The Instrumentation and Testing Technician supports offshore testing ranges, associated underwater and shoreside electronics, and instruments prototypes and maritime vehicles. In addition to having the skills and experience below, the ideal candidate will have meticulous troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the desire to learn and grow. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Troubleshoot equipment, instrumentation, and data-capture malfunctions. Evaluate reliability of prototype or production equipment and recommend improvements to simplify or standardize assembly and maintenance. Solve complex problems beyond referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents, such as electromagnetic interference, ground faults etc. Work typically requires an understanding of the interrelationships of circuits, circuit analyses, tracing relationships in signal flow, and using complex test instruments and complex computer control equipment. Create instrumentation and testing setups from requirements and generate simple schematics using basic diagramming software such as MS Visio, KiCad or equivalent. Perform assembly and installation of instrumentation and testing components: antennas and cabling, printed circuit boards, multimeters, oscilloscopes, mega-ohmmeters, instrumentation amplifiers, radios, video cameras, monitors, and fiber optics (including connections and terminations). Perform bench testing of instrumentation, particularly circuits, sensors, and systems. Independently conduct tests that are accurate and repeatable. Installation and Configuration: Deploy and set up complex onshore and offshore data acquisition systems, ensuring proper integration and functionality. Maintenance and Repair: Conduct regular maintenance, diagnose issues, and perform necessary repairs to ensure consistent and reliable system operation. Calibration and Testing: Perform calibration and testing procedures on electronic components and instruments, ensuring accurate data collection and adherence to established standards. Experience and application of LabVIEW instrumentation platform; ability to code/interpret in the Python programming language. Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to system configurations, maintenance activities, troubleshooting steps, and repairs. Document procedures and results with programs such as Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and MS Visio. Collaboration: Work closely with a cross-functional team, including engineers, scientists, fabricators, machinists, and project managers, to support data acquisition objectives and address technical challenges. Compliance and Safety: Adhere to industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols while working in onshore or offshore environments and handling electronic equipment in harsh environments. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancement, system optimization, and technology upgrades to improve data collection efficiency and accuracy. Reporting: Prepare regular status reports and updates for project leads and management, detailing system performance, maintenance activities, and any relevant issues. Training and Support: Provide training and technical support to junior technicians and end-users, promoting knowledge transfer and skill development. Specific Functional Skills: Meticulous Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical problems that may arise during system operation, employing strong analytical skills to pinpoint and rectify issues promptly. Knowledge of basic fiber optic cables and terminations, utilizing quick connects, and fusion splicing. Operate fiber optic test equipment including power loss meters and optical time domain reflectometers (OTDR). Knowledge of computer hardware and networking. VHF: Utilization of VHF equipment and principles (radios, antennas, coaxial cables, connectors, amplifiers and wire routing). Apply standing wave ratios, and utilization to build and analyze resilient VHF networks. Systems operator: Initialize, operate and troubleshoot acquisition systems during testing. Ability to read and understand schematics to populate PCBs and/or wiring harnesses. Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to diagnose and resolve technical issues effectively. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to create clear and concise technical documentation and local quick reference operating procedures. Team Player: Demonstrated ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and adapt to changing project needs. Soldering: Create splices and wiring harnesses, solder multipin connectors and printed circuit boards. (both onshore and offshore.) Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Power Point, Word, MS Visio etc.). CERTIFICATIONS AND TOOLS: Certifications: Relevant certifications in electronics, such as Certified Electronics Technician (CET), are advantageous.
