Senior RF Engineer Orange County, CA Our exciting Space client are looking for an RF engineer to be responsible for the RF design for a remote sensing payload, this roles responsibility includes the concept of operations (CONOPS) for the payload on the bus given on orbit constraints such as power, attitude, thermal loads. Being responsible for all aspects include the ground processing. With support as needed from the SAR/DevOps team, they will be responsible for designing and developing the ground-based solution that would work with various ground systems. Success in this role requires someone with very detailed experience with both SAR theory as well as hands on design experience for both the hardware and software. What you'll do: Architect and design high-power converters/inverters (>10 kW) for aerospace electrical and motion control products, balancing efficiency, power density, and reliability Select and apply Si, SiC, and/or GaN power devices (as appropriate) and design gate-drive, controller, feedback stability, magnetic components including power inductors and transformers, sensing, and protection (short-circuit, overcurrent, over/undervoltage, thermal, desaturation) Design topologies and the power stage (DC bus, precharge/discharge, snubbers/clamps, current sensing, filtering) and define safe operating envelopes and derating at given environments Drive thermal design with mechanical engineering (heatsinks, cold plates, airflow/liquid cooling) and validate junction-to-ambient performance including loss breakdown, thermal analysis Own EMI/EMC strategy for aerospace environments: grounding, shielding, layout constraints, conducted/radiated mitigation, filter design, and test readiness Lead schematic capture and review PCB layout for low-inductance, high-current/high-voltage design; ensure creepage/clearance, isolation, and safety best practices Plan and execute prototype bring-up and high-power lab testing with safe procedures; debug failures and perform root-cause analysis Define verification plans and acceptance criteria and produce clear, review-ready test reports and evidence packages; support supplier/parts selection and DFM/DFT as designs transition to manufacturing What you need: 7+ years (or equivalent depth) in power electronics design and product development, with demonstrated work on high-power systems (>10 kW) Strong experience with power converter/inverter topologies, architecture, device selection, gate-drive design, controller selection, feedback gain, stability margin, protection, and high-voltage, high-current PCB/layout practices Hands-on bring-up and debug experience with high-power hardware (safe lab practices, oscilloscopes, HV differential probes, current probes, power analyzers, network/stability analyzers) Ability to take designs from concept through prototype, verification, and production readiness with clear documentation to meet special and mission-oriented applications' requirement Nice to haves: Aerospace experience: qualification mindset, configuration control, and familiarity with relevant test practices and EMI/EMC test workflows Motor drive experience: three-phase inverters for BLDC/PMSM, sensing, DC bus design, regen handling, and protection timing considerations High-voltage design experience (e.g., 200-800 VDC class) including isolation strategy and creepage/clearance design Power factor, total harmonic current distortion and EMI/EMC success in shipped products (e.g., MIL-STD-461/DO-160 standard specs concepts) and ability to design for compliance early Safety qualification experience such as leakage current, ESD, lightning and surge test Circuit Simulation familiarity (LTspice/PLECS/Simetrix/Simplis/Simulink or similar) for validation and trade-off PCB CAD and layout tool experience and familiarity Export Control This role supports aerospace programs and may involve export-controlled information or hardware. Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world's first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. Senior Power Electronics Engineer The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design and development of the power electronics of our nuclear-driven high-speed generator. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the design of high-voltage and high-speed generator drives, DC-DC converters for high-voltage batteries, and standalone and grid-tied inverters. You'll join the Power Conversion and Electrical Systems team responsible for converting mechanical energy generated from a nuclear reactor to electrical energy to deliver to customers. You will own power electronics design, analysis, simulation, and component selection. You will partner cross-functionally with top industry engineers at Radiant, as well as vendors and partner organizations, including government agencies. Your efforts will be instrumental in bringing the first nuclear microreactor to market. Responsibilities and Duties: Design and develop power electronics for a nuclear power generator. Build detailed schematics, select components, PCBA layout, prototype, and validate hardware. Apply EMI/EMC strategies and underlying physics to engineering problems. Utilize expertise in design and validation of gate drivers, power stages, magnetics, and controls. Conduct modeling and detailed simulation of inverters. Own the design and build a fully functioning inverter autonomously. Perform circuit formal analysis, e.g., de-rating and worst-case circuit analysis. Optimize loss, efficiency, and conduct thermal analysis of the inverter. Required Skills and Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in power electronics. 8+ years of design experience designing high voltage and high power electronics. Desired Skills and Qualifications: Expert with high voltage power semiconductor selection (Si/SiC/GaN, IGBT, Diodes, MOSFETs), gate driver, and protection circuit design. Strong understanding of different PWM switching techniques, DPWM, ZCS, ZVS. Expert with at least one of the common power electronics tools such as PLECS, PSCAD, dSPICE, PSIM, or Simplorer. Solid understanding of capacitor and super-capacitor design and selection, such as electrolytic, film, ceramic, and tantalum. Proficiency in EMI/EMC filter design for stability, noise rejection, and surviving threat signals. Startup experience or ability to work in a fast-paced development environment. Demonstrated experience in embedded programming with C/C++. Additional Requirements Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to accomplish our mission.
