Summary The Director ElectricalEngineering is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing various engineering functions with a specialized focus on electrical systems. Recognized as having technical expertise in electrical or applicable discipline engineering design, construction standards, ANSI/IEEE Standards, NEC, NERC, NESC code requirements, electric operating procedures, and regulatory compliance. This position ensures strategic alignment of engineering initiatives with organizational goals, manages multidisciplinary teams, and drives innovation while maintaining compliance with safety and industry standards. This is a full-time exempt position located at our Corporate HQ in Boston, MA. This position reports to the SVP Engineering. Compensation range of $150K-$245K base plus an annual bonus of 25%. Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Work with SVP, Engineering to develop strategic plans for major engineering problems and opportunities and has responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments. Work with SVP, Engineering to develop and update material and equipment standards, including operating procedures. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align projects with company goals. Direct and manage internal and external engineering resources across regions and disciplines. Oversee design, development, and implementation of engineering projects. Ensure plant performance, budgeting, and technical reviews meet organizational standards. Electrical Engineering Focus Lead electrical engineering involved in Vicinity's industry leading steam system electrification efforts. Lead all aspects of electric utility interconnection projects, NERC, working closely with utilities, internal and external teams to facilitate the successful integration of large-scale industrial heat pumps and electric boilers into our plants and onto the electric grid. Lead planning, design, and maintenance of electrical systems, including high and medium voltage projects, substations, transformers, and switchgear. Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety protocols, and reliability standards. Drive innovation in electrical system design and energy efficiency. Team Management Recruit, train, and develop engineering staff. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Responsible for supervising, assigning, prioritizing, and directing the work performed by engineering consultants and contractors. Compliance & Safety Ensure adherence to environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements. Implement risk management strategies for engineering and electrical operations. Familiarity with NERC, LOTO, and arc flash safety standards. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, EET or similar field with an electrical focus. Minimum eight years of progressive engineering experience, including leadership roles. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Engineering (Electrical or related field preferred).     Under the supervision of the Engineering Manager, the Electronics Packaging Engineer is responsible for the mechanical, thermal, and materials design of electronic assemblies and components to ensure reliability, manufacturability, and performance across the product lifecycle. This role bridges electrical design, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to develop robust packaging solutions for electronic systems operating in commercial, industrial, or harsh environments PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Design Solutions (40%) Delivers engineering design excellence Generates inventive, fresh ideas expressed through sketching that meets functional requirements Adjusts and/or incorporates changes in design based on feedback from management and/or client Develops design concepts for products, parts and assemblies Creates detailed CAD models of parts and assemblies Develops product documentation that supports high quality production Employs DFM, DFA and DFQ Uses advanced engineering modeling and simulation tools, instrumentation and measurement and design of experiments 2. Quality/Continuous Improvement (30%) Delivers flawless deliverables to client Manages deliverables and timing for self Delivers products that meets Kaleidoscope's standards and when appropriate, international standards and regulations 3. Performance Management (10%) Checks own work and that of peers, as requested Mentors and collaborates with entry level staff Participates in management of scope, schedule and cost 4. Client Interaction (10%) Presents to internal and external audiences Represents Kaleidoscope in a positive fashion 5. QUALIFICATIONS Education/Experience Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or related field 5+ years of professional experience in engineering and product development Licenses/Credentials/Certifications N/A Skills/Specialized Knowledge/Abilities Mechanical design ownership of electronic device design requiring tight packaging of electrical components and thermal management Ability to collaborate with electrical, firmware and optical engineers to optimize board layouts, connector placements, packaging efficiency, etc Experience setting up, running and interpreting results of thermal simulations Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks 3D CAD Proficient in creating SolidWorks 2D specification drawings, including GD&T Experience with Solidworks PDM and Agile PLM a plus Intermediate knowledge in geometric tolerance analysis Proficient in documentation and specification writing Experience designing for varied types of fabrication and production, especially injection molding, die casting and machining Experience in cameras and optics a plus Possesses good analytical and problem-solving skills Proficient using hand tools and building/fabricating large prototypes Synthesizes and drives towards appropriate solutions Able to work independently with minimal direction.
