Summary/Objective
The Austin Company performs design-build work for industrial and specialized commercial markets. The Electrical Intern actively works with in-house engineers, architects, and construction departments to assist with ongoing functions. The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $105,100 - 140,900 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. Duties & Responsibilities
Pre-Design & Site Analysis
Conduct field surveys and assessments for electrical system design
Compile detailed site assessment reports and gather technical data
Develop electrical schematic designs during early project phases
Design & Technical Execution
Create single-line diagrams, riser diagrams, and circuit layouts
Perform electrical calculations including arc flash, coordination, short circuit, voltage drop, and load flow using ETAP or SKM
Select lighting fixtures and power equipment
Design lighting and power circuiting and coordinate lighting control systems
Develop fire alarm layouts in accordance with NFPA 72 and International Fire Code
Design fire alarm risers, sequence of operations, and system calculations
Produce detailed construction documents including enlarged plans, elevations, schedules, and diagrams
Apply CAD/BIM standards and ensure compliance with California Electrical Code and Title 24 Energy Standards
Coordinate effectively with mechanical, plumbing, telecom, civil, structural, and architectural teams
Project Management & Leadership
Manage multiple large-scale projects, coordinating with internal teams and external consultants
Provide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level design engineers
Lead project proposals and contribute to client development
Maintain strong client relationships and actively pursue new business opportunities
Construction Administration
Review and respond to RFIs and submittals during construction phase
Conduct field inspections, punch walks, and prepare final punch list documentation
Ensure project execution aligns with design intent and code requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Licenses
Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering
Registered Professional Engineer (PE) Required
Experience
5+ years of professional electrical engineering experience (commercial, healthcare, institutional projects preferred)
Proven experience leading design and managing engineering teams
Skills & Technical Knowledge
Proficient in AutoCAD, ETAP or SKM, and Revit
Familiarity with HCAI standards (Healthcare Access and Information) is a plus
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines
Self-driven and collaborative mindset with strong technical communication skills
