Experience in the electrical/instrumentation field whose duties include but are not limited to removal, repair and installation of electrical components and intermediate troubleshooting. Experience with motor and motor controls, VFD's, Servo, process controls, and programmable controllers (PLCs), is preferred. Must be able to read and understand electrical instruction manuals, schematics, relating to trouble shooting of production equipment. Electrician must be capable of analyzing and solving machine and building system electrical problems. Experience in the printing industry a plus. Employee will work under minimal supervision.
Must be qualified to work on electrical systems up to 480 volts. Must be familiar with DC systems as well as AC systems. Electrical license (Journeyman at minimum) preferred. Familiar with and adhere to Arc Flash Safety. Familiar with electronic circuits.
Starting hourly rate of $32.83- $33.54. Overtime and weekend work is required at certain times.

Position Summary

The Electrician II maintains reports regarding time and production, repairs, and cost analysis. Duties for the Electrician II include:

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Inspects buildings to detect and locate causes of electrical failures or breakdowns of equipment, and determines, recommends or executes corrective measures
* Responds to campus work requests regarding assigned work and emergencies, taking appropriate corrective actions in compliance with departmental guidelines and University and state regulations
* Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications, operating manuals, schematic drawings, sketches, instructions or layouts in order to implement the required electrical and associated work
* Plans and coordinates installation and wiring of equipment and fixtures such as motors and generators, switches, transformers, switchboards, and fuse boxes according to blueprints, schematic drawings and sketches
* Tests, repairs, installs and maintains various types of electrical systems and equipment by operating the appropriate equipment and tools to ensure proper maintenance and functioning of necessary equipment
* Repairs, maintains and operates electrical equipment (e.g., motors, generators, transformers, power panels, switchboards, regulators, wiring switches, control equipment)

INTRODUCTION
UConn's Facilities Operations Department has two job openings for Power Distribution Electrician positions at the Storrs Campus. The Power Distribution Electrician positions are permanent, full-time, 37.5 hours/week positions. The work schedule will be determined by seniority and discussed during the interview.
These positions are only open to current UConn NP-2 QCW Electricians that have completed the training requirements of the Power Distribution Electrician job classification. Current QCW Electrical employees who meet all of the minimum qualifications and special requirements of the job specification will be provided with an opportunity for an interview for the positions. In order to be eligible for the positions, current UConn NP-2 QCW Electrical employees must have completed two years of training with an energized voltage over 600 volts, successful completion of Eversource ESOP 100 high voltage training and hold an active E-1 or E-2 license. These positions are categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff. Must be willing and able to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that affect campus operations. * Plan, layout and install complex wiring circuits and distribution centers in conformance with established codes,install switches and controls, central subsidiary control panels, electronic devices and all other duties incidental to installation.
* Work from wiring, hydraulic, pneumatic schematic drawings and code book.

As Needed Responsibilities
* Support proper implementation of new processes & equipment
* Identify, analyze and solve manufacturing process issues and equipment related problems including electrical,mechanical, and programming
* Provide leadership and development to maintenance staff to diagnose and solve electrical equipment issues
* Drive process improvements through the use of WPS/WCM manufacturing concepts and tools
* Provide technical support to production and work teams and serve as a technical resource for the department
* Support maintaining stability in day to day operations
Minimum requirements
* Journeyman's card or equivalent experience to a Journeyman (ex: previous engineering experience, electrician certifications, etc)
* Able to read electrical schematics and knowledge of programmable controllers
* Hands-on experience with low voltage (480V and below) electrical applications
* Basic experience with the following automation disciplines PLC Programming / HMI Development / Variable Frequency Drives / Motion Control / Industrial Networks / Sensors
* 2+ years in manufacturing environment with a good understanding of plant operations and engineering, and skilled-trade technician work

Top priority will be given to candidates that have a strong background in Fire Alarm work.
