General Information
Job Description:
This position is responsible for the installation, repair, and hook-up of equipment for electrical services on a ship. The individual must have working knowledge of electrical theory and procedures and the ability to troubleshoot and repair shipboard electrical systems and equipment (600 V and less) in accordance with specifications and drawings. The qualifications and general capabilities listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability desired by the shipyard.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Must possess the skill sets of subordinate grades of the labor class.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Must comply with OSHA standards and the shipyards best safety practices. --Must be physically and medically capable to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the job as prescribed under OSHA standards. PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.)
-Arrive at the designated work site at the assigned time and end the shift as directed by the schedule and your supervisor. Personnel are accountable for completion of daily work assignments.
-Keep your work area clean and safe at all times, especially at the end of the shift.
-Understand relevant work processes, operation of equipment, and complete tasks proficiently.
-Use appropriate sections of IEE, ABS, Coast Guard and manufacturer's tech manuals and ship's information book in repairing electrical equipment and installing electrical equipment.
-Provide quality work and Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) as required by the work specifications or assigned by the supervisor.
-Work shifts and overtime as assigned.

-Carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Resolve unexpected events related to your assigned task in a professional manner.
Work Tasks Include:
1. Running cables, lines and leads, terminations/connector fabrication, packing of cable transits and harnessing cables aboard vessels.
2. Prepares work area, drills holes, grinds metal surfaces, inspect and reports on cableway and electrical equipment conditions, tests and reports results on electrical equipment.
3. Test internal circuits of major units of electrical equipment for continuity, short circuits, and grounds and measure electrical quantities and compare with established values.
4. Inspect trip shafts, toggle linkages and all other mechanical parts to see that they operate freely without binding.
5. Inspect mechanical and electrical connections including mounting bolts and screws; draw out disconnect devices and control wiring.
6. Detect and locate grounds, open circuits and short circuits in distribution generators and systems. Maintain and repair telephones, circuits, and associated equipment.
7. Install new power and lighting circuits.
8. Must be familiar with all safety procedures pertaining to or where to obtain electrical procedures. Must be very knowledgeable of work/safety procedures and manual.
9. Implement Lock-out Tag-out for work being performed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
-The working environment in the shipyard varies from a normal office conditions to working outside where precipitation, wind, extreme cold, and extreme heat and high humidity are not unusual. When working inside of vessels the environment may be smoky, hot or cold, and have low levels of illumination may be present.
-There are heavy equipment and power tools operating almost at every location. Depending on the type of work available, reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the job requirements.
-Personnel can expect to work in a variety of spaces from confined areas accessible only by manholes to high platforms accessible only by scaffolding or ladders. Work may also be accomplished using mechanical lifts as working platforms.
-The noise level in the shipyard environment is usually loud, especially inside of vessels. The noise encountered in the shop is generally low to moderate. ---The wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment is mandatory.
-There is always the potential of falling objects and personnel are occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts during work.
-Appropriate --PPE must always be worn.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Must be able to tour all vessels, piers, docks and work sites.

-Must be able to read and interpret composite blueprints, electrical diagrams, computer printouts, specifications, and Navy standards manual
-Must possess a thorough understanding of equipment and work processes used in marine electrical repair and system installation.
-Must be able to operate and care for Electric Shop equipment, portable power tools, and hand tools.
-Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Must understand US standard and metric system measurements.
-Must have six (6) years of related electrical installation and repair experience.

The wages, conditions, and terms of which are governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with IATSE Local 122. Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises IATSE Local 122 employees in the Electrical department and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Department Heads are expected to anticipate department needs, follow through on projects and meet deadlines set by SDSOA Production Department, and motivate other crew to achieve agreed outcomes. As leaders, Department Heads should have the ability to think ahead and be self-sufficient in assessing and completing required tasks. This includes setting priorities, anticipating potential challenges and multitasking. All Department Heads have a responsibility to manage personnel safety and uphold safety protocols within the department, which include participating in all required training.
Position Responsibilities:
Inventory all house electrics equipment and prepare all documents relating to the inventory.
Ensure safe distribution of power onstage and other associated areas.
Inspect, repair, and maintain all House electrics equipment.
Prepare and package equipment for RMA, including filing paperwork with vendors.
Assist SDSO Production staff in the advance of an event, as requested.
Lead and manage crews during load ins, rehearsals, performances, load outs, and maintenance calls.
Coordinate and communicate with San Diego Symphony Head Electrician at Jacobs Music Center as needed.
Supervise the installation, operation, and maintenance of theatrical lighting equipment.
Understanding and ability to repair moving lights and conventional LED fixtures.
Maintain working knowledge of all installed equipment and fixtures.
Read and implement light plots and understand theatrical design and technical drawings.
Act as Lighting Board Operator, Deck Electrician and/or Lighting Designer during all events.
Assist with stage changes as required.
Program and operate GrandMA and various other lighting consoles and house lighting control systems.
Support guest and touring Lighting Designers as needed.
Maintain professional currency with industry trends and standards in lighting, event communications and related live production lighting equipment.

Skills & Experience:
Experience in lighting design for theatre, corporate, rock n' roll, and spot calling.
Experience in lighting for cameras, including IMAG and video records.
Experience in programming, operating and “punting” shows on GrandMA 2 and 3.

Proficiency in all GrandMA hardware, software, and networking.

Job Description:
This position is responsible for the installation, repair, and hook-up of equipment for electrical services on a ship. The individual must have working knowledge of electrical theory and procedures and the ability to troubleshoot and repair shipboard electrical systems and equipment (600 V and less) in accordance with specifications and drawings. The qualifications and general capabilities listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability desired by the shipyard.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Must possess the skill sets of subordinate grades of the labor class.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Must comply with OSHA standards and the shipyards best safety practices. --Must be physically and medically capable to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the job as prescribed under OSHA standards. PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.)
-Arrive at the designated work site at the assigned time and end the shift as directed by the schedule and your supervisor. Personnel are accountable for completion of daily work assignments.

3. Test internal circuits of major units of electrical equipment for continuity, short circuits, and grounds and measure electrical quantities and compare with established values.
4. Inspect trip shafts, toggle linkages and all other mechanical parts to see that they operate freely without binding.
5. Inspect mechanical and electrical connections including mounting bolts and screws; draw out disconnect devices and control wiring.
6. Detect and locate grounds, open circuits and short circuits in distribution generators and systems. Maintain and repair telephones, circuits, and associated equipment.
7. Install new power and lighting circuits.
8. Must be familiar with all safety procedures pertaining to or where to obtain electrical procedures. Must be very knowledgeable of work/safety procedures and manual.
9. Implement Lock-out Tag-out for work being performed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
-The working environment in the shipyard varies from a normal office conditions to working outside where precipitation, wind, extreme cold, and extreme heat and high humidity are not unusual. When working inside of vessels the environment may be smoky, hot or cold, and have low levels of illumination may be present.
-There are heavy equipment and power tools operating almost at every location. Depending on the type of work available, reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the job requirements.
-Personnel can expect to work in a variety of spaces from confined areas accessible only by manholes to high platforms accessible only by scaffolding or ladders. Work may also be accomplished using mechanical lifts as working platforms.

Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Perform general maintenance, repairs, and improvements for facilities, as needed. Ensure that all work is done in accordance with relevant codes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assemble, install, test, or maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools.
Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
Test electrical switch gear, panels, motors and wiring. Test lighting fixtures, switches, outlets and other 120v - 480v electrical systems.
Operate ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit banks, moving or lifting heavy objects, fit in small spaces. Must be able to work above head height and down to floor height.
Be able to problem solve and come up with code compliant solutions on the fly.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Training:
A minimum of five years' experience in electrical trade and new electrical construction primarily in commercial application.
Must be a current card carrying certified state of Californiaelectrician.
Expert knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and California Electric Code (CEC).
Thorough knowledge of motor control centers.
Must be proficient in reading single line diagrams and schematic.
Skilled pipe bender and installer.
Excellent electrical troubleshooting skills
Strong written/verbal communication skills.
Ability to read, write and speak in English; comprehend simple to complex instructions, short correspondence and memos.
Strong computer skills.
Strong mathematical skills.
Acute attention to detail.
Maintain reliable transportation to and from work.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted.
Continually required to walk, sit, stand, stoop, climb, push, pull, bend, squat and regularly use hands to reach, grasp, handle and feel.
Frequently required to stand for prolonged periods of time.
Must be able to work indoors and in various outdoor weather conditions (i.e., direct sunlight, heat, wet and/or humid conditions).
Must be able to work extended hours, nights and weekends when needed.
Occasionally perform job at heights of up to 350 feet (Sky Tower), but usually less than 80 feet (camera towers, exhibits stadium catwalks).
Education Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Participation in a vocational or electrical apprentice program required.
